Im in the same boat, I find im very inconsistent with the journalling side of things. .. I felt that I was re writing the same things. . Going over the same old ground.. maybe that's what's meant to happen, but I found that I was almost dwelling on the misery that I had written down infront of me. For me just doing it and challenging the pain has been work has been working for me. I don't think sitting down and forcing yourself to put emotional issues down on paper is going to help myself, sure if things come up easily then go for it. I think I also find it easier to concentrate on one subject at a time, for instance put at the top of the page the subject or person that your having a hard time with and jot down bullet points of the problems that are to do with that situation/person then go on from there.
This to shall pass.... |

For what it's worth, I'm not big on journaling. I like to keep things simple. Accept TMS as the explanation for your pain. This automatically reduces or even eliminates fear. TMS feeds on fear and stress. Without them, psychosomatic pain generally evaporates..
Couldn't be simpler in my view. |

I do like journaling, but I get mixed results. By results, I don't necessarily mean relief of symptoms, but psychological relief. Usually (if I spill the beans on paper for quite some time) I'll get that. But, not always. Sometimes I'll feel worse, especially if I feel I've gone over the same ground many times before and have grown sick of writing about it. I think everybody should give it a try every day for a week or so and decide for yourself if it is for you. If not, do something else. |

Scman, I have to agree with what Art said! I have tried it over the years an didn't get any results. What I do get heaps of benefit from is the following.
- I write out in point form EVERYTHING that's on my mind....I mean everything! Things that I worry about, think about, control, cant control...anything and everything. The things I can do something I make sure I have in my task organizer the rest I drop.
( some might see this as journaling but I don't )
I don't have it perfected yet, but most times that I do this I have a much better sleep, and usually wake the next morning with very little pain.
To be really honest with you I think journaling is counter productive as most people will write about what's wrong and not working, makes you angry etc. Doing this everyday just keeps you focused on all the negative crap.
What I have discovered about TMS is this.
Rubbish or negative thoughts = negative feelings I can't or don't know how to handle = TMS pain.
As Art says....it's really simple....it's just our minds that complicate it
