Hi folks,
I'm a 25 'old, TMS sufferer (so I believe...)
After reading Dr Sarno's book, I'm now doing the Dr Schubiner 28 days program (which is a must have for anyone who has/had TMS, it's just great), and although I did a great progress from being almost disabled to having (almost) a normal life, I still feel pain and tight muscles after a full 8-9 hours of computer work.
And that maid me wonder- maybe inspite of the TMS, maybe I do have some unsolved physical problem in my hand. I know it's 'against' the TMS theory, and believe me I'm trying to find a mental connection but I can't find...
and at the end all I can come up with is that- 9 hours of computer work is the only reason :(
Does anyone have an idea or maybe just a tip of how to find a deeper connection?
I had an improvement in other areas in my life: I went back to driving, swimming, and doing normal everyday chores, but the computer issue is a tough nut for me!
I'd really like to find one because if not, I can't work a full time job which I'd really really like to...
BTW I think this forum is f a n t a s t i c :)
sincerely yours,
Noam. |

I don't generally consider tightness or some modicum of pain after engaging in some activity for hours and hours much of a problem. After running for example, I expect a certain amount of this.
I think the key for you might be to simply accept that you're a flesh and blood human being. Fixating on the physical is something TMS'ers want to avoid. Better to keep in mind the great strides you've made in your life.
Just my opinion of course. |

I was there monta. I cannot sit for more than 10 minute on computer and I am writing to you today after continious sitting on computer for almost 10 Hr. And my job also need lot of concentratuion. I do not experience any more symptoms.
I have experienced in past, intense neck spasms, that will come only after sitting on computer.
I would say confidently in my case is : fear of injury is the only thing that was causing my symptoms. In fact I was 24 hr in fear.
Fear is your biggest enemy. It is not that you get immediate pain after sitting on computer but this tensing habit starts in your mind as soon as you wake up and because of staring to one more day of torture, you tense more and more and this cycle goes on this till the evening.
In the evening you feel more relaxed and there is no symptoms also. This happends because theere is no fear and your brain is more relaxed.
I would advise to observe what is going on your mind during starting of day \ computer work and in the evening. Develop sensitivity and you will know you are always tense on computer.
So you have to become aware of this tensing pattern and let it go. And as your fear goes, you will be again back into the normal world.
Following thing have helped me:
1) Hillibily's all Post : he is really my mentor. I hope I will one day meet him personally. I dare say without Him, I will be far away from where I am today. Totally pain free.
2) Books of Abraham Low : Refer my old post about book : mental Health through Will training. Read chapter : The Myth of nervous Fatigue.
3) Ashok Gupta's Amalgyda Re-training Program.
I wish you best for your recovery.

This is probably better advice than mine to be honest. Perhaps I'm coming at this as an old guy of just about 60. I can't do anything for 9 hours without some sort of ache or pain. I just do my best to ignore.... a strategy that's mostly worked quite well.
