I started playing softball a few weeks ago. I havent been very active in many years. Im 29 now. I took center field position and it was tough with all the running. My cardio just needs improving, plus my leg muscles continuosly gave out when I had to sprint. All I need is some conidtioning and Im sure Ill get back in the swing of things.
I notice my left knee felt strange the next day. It was a little sore when I put weight on it, the pain seems to be located in the lower part of the joint. The fluid is has collected itself on the left front of my knee right beside my knee cap. You can only see it when I bend my knee. The tendon that runs along the back of the knee on the outside has been popping on and off for quite some time now.
1 week ago I was sliding into 2nd and my cleat caught the ground and turned my ankle badly. It is sprained at the moment. It was impossible to walk on the day after. There is no fluid present that I can see in that area. Im sure the spain will take some time as I hurt it pretty badly.
I had a collection of fluid on the same left knee about 5 years ago when I started back playing basketball. I jump with my left leg. It was excruciating to walk. People keep mentioning arthritis to me but, I never get these fluid build ups unless I start getting really active. I need to stay active and build my strength up. I always make the mistake of being competitive and injuring myself b/c Im just not in shape. Ive got to learn to do what I can and not push myself so hard. I guess its just my competitive nature.
I have also discussed the "shoulder impingement" I was diagnosed with a year or so ago. Several ppl here thought it could be TMS. I have had no luck at all curing it via TMS theory. Everything that comes out of my shoulders into my arms hurt. I throw a softball really hard and it hurts. It pops everytime I throw. Mayeb I should try some back and shoulder strengthening? My shoulder posture is reaslly bad. My shoulders roll forward. Im 6 ft 4 and I have to slouch alot to do normal activities and work. What do you guys think?
Emotionally? Things have been going well for me. I got a job (part time) at a place I really love and Im friends with everyone there. Im waiting on my application to be approved to become a volunteer fireman in my community which I am excited about. I recently started playing softball with a team that invited me to come play with them. I have felt like I dont really "fit in" with the guys on my team. They are all good friends and Im sort of an outsider. I didnt really begin feeling this way until a week after my knee pain and ankle sprain.
Walnut, you must understand that positive events can trigger TMS symptoms as well as negative events. Life events that effect your homeostasis or comfort zone are the triggers for TMS. For instance on the Holmes-Rahe list paying off ones's mortgage scores stress points.
I highly recommend you get Dr. Sarno's audio book of "HEALING BACK PAIN" to clarify some TMS fundamentals. The gremlin doesn't want to let go of you.
Also take a look at the link below I provided for the Holmes-Rahe list of life stessing events that can trigger TMS physical symptoms. You may find some of your recent life changes on there.
