Someone I work with came in today with a huge neck brace on and a mammoth scar on his neck near the clavicle (front near the throat). As a successful TMS'er, I of course was shocked to see this because right away I KNEW this was not good. I said, "oh Tom, what happened?" He said one day he had pain out of nowhere and the doctor did an MRI and said, "get in here right away for surgery, you have a bulging disc pressing on your nerve." He had to have immediate surgery and has been out of work for two weeks. I said "what happened to cause this, did you have an accident or fall off a building?" He said "nothing happened, it just hurt one day and I was in surgery the next." He said, "I also have lower disc issues in my back." I can already hear the doctor telling him to get ready for his next surgery. I gave him a brief intro talk on Sarno, told him of my same pain and how successfully I rid myself of it. He wants me to bring in the book tomorrow. I told him I wish I knew you were going to have this surgery, I would have discouraged you and given you the book BEFORE you went through this.
I have to tell you all folks, this is SO hard to hear and see. I used to have debilitating lower back pain. Was told the same thing: "Your MRI shows a bulging disc and spondilyosis and arthritis in your back. Yeah, you really need PT and chiro to get this under control." I did the Sarno reading and stopped ALL therapy and got well on my own doing the stuff Sarno suggests. No more back pain, folks! Well it's too late, Tom, my co-worker had the surgery, but maybe, just maybe I can prevent him from having the next one on his lower back, which I am sure this doctor will suggest next.
Thank you Sarno! Thank you everyone on this board, especially Baseball65 who helped me in the very beginning to get this stuff through my head in 2005. I am 99% pain free now and all it cost me was a $14 book and some serious work on myself on a deep level.

Yes I'm afraid non-believers are everywhere.

I cured my RSI and no longer worry about it. I went from being unable to type for more than 10 minutes a day to being able to type for 8 hours then go home and play computer games all night.

Occupational health visited me recently (I didn't tell them about Dr Sarno - they wouldn't have believed me) and it is clear they still believe posture etc. are the key factor in workplace stress.

One of my co-workers has been off for work for 6 weeks with "stress". She has an army of occupational health workers and doctors listening to her every problem when in reality there's probably nothing that couldn't be solved permanently by a sarno-type approach. It's very sad.

With all the talk of skyrocketing health care costs, I always say to myself: "ya, and a big part of that is unnecessary expensive back/neck surgeries, PT, OT, Chiro, etc." Think of how rampant these therapies are now. Everyone I know gets one or all of them.
