If you were to ask me a year ago what my outlook would be for this year - I would have said... "Painful".
Last year I couldn't run, hop off a curb, bump into a wall, get off the couch, get in or out of my car, lay down in bed or pretty much do anything without sending off a major spasm of pain. And when the pain wasn't there - I was gripped by fear. I couldn't play golf, exercise, or do anything fun.
I'm sure many of you can relate.
My body was so tense and stiff trying to prevent another wave of pain that someone commented to me that it looked like I was walking around in a straight jacket. It felt that way too.
What do things look like today?
Well, I've been golfing twice a week and just won first place in the golf league championship with a birdie on the last hole to win.
I can jog/run, walk around with a relaxed confident body. I can work out and lift weights and lead a life unrestricted as far as physical activity.
And now yesterday - this is me on a day trip to a motorcross track with my son. http://twitpic.com/iktvp
I'm not saying any of this to brag. I'm sharing this for those of you in pain who have difficulty believing there is hope.
There IS hope. There is a better life. You don't have to be in pain forever.
I could barely wipe my own ass last year. Now I'm riding and jumping dirt bikes without pain or fear.
Tension Myositis Syndrome or Mindbody Syndrome is the cause of most chronic pain and the approaches shared on this website and in Dr. Sarno's books DO work.
Your first step is belief. Belief allows you to see the potential this cure holds. Once you see the potential, you'll take the actions necessary. Your actions create the results.
Nothing will happen until you believe that a better future is possible.
Go for it...

Yeah! Funny how the mind works. At 40 I started riding a motorcycle earlier this year. In the midst of a pain cycle since March, I told myself I would not be scared to ride, despite the pinching in my lower back going over bumps, and the locking up I feel getting off the bike sometimes (like this morning). I just ignore it, and give it time to pass. The "straight jacket" comment hits home. I can tell sometimes that if I give in to the fear, I will become one of those people "locked into" their bodies, who's afraid of even the slightest movement. NOT the way to live. Looking forward to putting a new deck together next year. LOTS of bending and digging. Even if I still hurt then, I'll do as much as I can until my back is so stiff and sore I can't move (that's how it was this past summer). Just keep moving. |
