I highly recommend Dr. Schechter's audio tapes. The other day I was searching for DR. Sarno's books on tape to listen to while in my car. I couldn't find any at the links or Amazon and maybe they don't exist. I do have his VHS video set. So I went to my bookshelf, where I keep my TMS books and materials, and dusted off the manila envelope containing the three audio cassettes by Dr. Schechter. I listentd to them a number of years ago and tucked them away.
I've re-listened to one so far, and have been amazed by how good they are. Many of the questions that arise repeatedly on the board, especially from newbies, are clearly answered in the tapes.
I get frustrated, in my TMS, "goodist", "perfectionist" attempts, to find citations from MBP, (trickling droplets of rage into my reservoir). When I hear Dr. Schechter state the principles of TMS outloud, it makes them very easy to understand.
I will now use my driving time to "re-brainwash" myself in TMS theory and facts. I and others have re-occurrences of TMS symptoms and would like to stop them. The answer is to fully understand the fundamentals of TMS theory and absorb them on a cellular, unconscious level. Whenever a physical or emotional equivalent surfaces, the first thought we should have is: THIS IS TMS UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE".
I am finding listening to Dr. Schechter's tapes very useful in refreshing my memory of TMS theory - I consider it a BOOSTER SHOT against TMS flare-ups. You can find the tapes at Dr. Schechter's link from the home page. Hope this helps. |

Hi Tennis Tom.
Just a quick note.There is a Sarno tape/CD recording.I bought it on eBay for about 15 bucks with shipping.
Interestingly it doesn't follow the book exactly...it sort of re-arranges the order so the recovery "to-do's" are at the very end.I had bought it for a friend once as a gift,but never bothered to listen until a long trip about a month ago.
It was interesting to finally hear his voice.....sounds like an old school New Yorker.
The only part I skipped was where he addresses every single possible condition....it got kind of tedious and started to make my skin crawl....

| Hi tennis tom, this is really helpful. I've been thinking about getting some tapes or CD's as I always find listening to things helps them to sink in more than reading. I'm realizing that the only way to fully get this thing under control is, as you say, to brainwash myself. I'm not familiar with Dr Schechter but will go do a search right now. |

I have Dr. Schechter's CDs as well, and have listened to them over and over again. I can practically recite the words with him! They are a bit pricey, but worth it.
I also got Dr. Sarno's CD from Amazon and listened to it a couple times. I ordered another copy last week, because I loaned out my CD and haven't got it back yet. I figure now I can loan my "spare" to my friends who need it.
It seems I have every book mentioned so far, i.e. Dr. Sopher, Fred Amir, Monte's book, and 2 of Sarno's books. I just randomly pick them up with I need a boost and know that the repetition will sink in.
Right now I am reading and studying ChiRunning by Danny Dreyer. Very, very interesting, and I had a good, albeit short, run this morning. |

Thanks for the advice. I just ordered the Schechter CD's "used"--which is more often than not, in my experience at least, good as new--from Amazon. I'm hoping that they will potentiate my progress thus far.

| Today I received the DVD of the panel group of dr. Schechter. I did watch the video and can recommend it to you all, because it's very useful to see people speaking who have dealt with the same kind of problems as yourself. I am now considering to order the cd-material aswell. But actually I prefer a dvd. |

OK, Tom - you prompted me to load the Schechter CD's onto my iPod(one of my favorite toys ever!). I've been slacking a bit in doing my reading & journaling, so I'm listening to the MindBody Audio Program right now at work (I have a Bose speaker/dock here, so I can listen to music while I work). I'm giving up rock music for Dr. Schechter, but hey, it's good for me!
