I just want to acknowledge and thank all the people here who post their very personal stories of suffering through pain, fear, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. It takes a lot of bravery to reveal yourself so much, and it helps others (like me) who are going through relapses and need a "refresher course" after doing good for a while. It's so calming to see that others are going through the exact same issues, and it really strengthens the faith in TMS when you realize how alike we all are. You realize it's all about fear--fear of moving, fear of sitting, fear of driving, fear of bending, fear of lifting, fear of dealing with things that are really bothering you deep down, however illogical.
Re: suicide... The only time in my life I ever even "went there" in my mind was after days of crippling pain, you think, "well, at least the pain will be over." How horrible is that? There's so much to love in this short life we're given, and TMS is so powerful it can take you to that dark place. No wonder it comes back after you think you're "cured." I also notice that many folks here feel like they "let down" their spouse and/or family by not being able to help around the house so much, and hating to ask for help. That's gotta be classic TMS personality; I know that's one of my big issues I have to deal with to make progress.
So, thanks again to everyone here, we give each other strength and hope and I don't know where I'd be if I never read Healing Back Pain that first time. Bed-ridden with a morphine drip? HELL NO!

Thanks for the kind words. They brought tears to my eyes. Also, thanks for reminding me to feel grateful for all I have learned from the people on this forum.

I agree with everyone that this forum is wonderful. I am one of those "lucky people" who was freed from my most distressing TMS pain a couple of years ago by reading HBP and following it up with MBP...of course I've had many previous episodes of TMS during the course of my life which were not recognized by me or anyone else as TMS....and of course I've had a few since (although short lived)....
I'm a true believer! When I sometimes feel down or anxious I log on to read the stories and see if anyone that was posting with me during that time is still participating....I love the connection...it really is group therapy at it's best! |
