Hi Everyone,
Well it took three years but the neuropathy in both my feet has finally settled down. You all offered such great help thorughout that time period. I was doing okay aside from the diverticulitis attack last Fall and the occassional on-going anxiety attack....then a few months back I started having pain in my left shoulder and left side of my upper back.... I have had it before to a minor degree and usually from carrying heavy bags....now it's constant and it hurts a lot and all over my back but especially the upper back. I cannot sleep and if I do when I wake in the morning, I feel like I have been lifting heavy items or digging ditches all night.....I can barely fall out of bed without crying from the pain. I saw my Primary Care and she sent me to physical therapy which, I swear, made it worse. Then she sent me to a back specialist. X-rays showed nothing unusual, but he suggested I go to a "better" p.t. who does sports therapy for the area top athletes. I went once and he showed me a few yoga stretches and I felt better for a few hours and even slept that night. So, I decided to go back to doing yard work, house work...and now my back is really hurting....and I was informed today that my health insurance won't cover any more p.t. I don't even know how this back pain started....I just woke up like this one morning in April. What do you think? ANy advice?

I have had the same upper back (left side) symptoms myself. Ten years ago I had very bad back pain, then widespread body aches off/on, etc. They subsided after a year when I discovered Sarno's books.
A few years later the upper back spasm got me one day when I over stretched and then really got me when I lifted something. It would get me often after lifting too much.
Years later, I got pelvic floor spasm, neuropathic pain, sciatica etc, two months after healing from a hysterectomy. I was told I had nerve damage or scarring from the surgery. Did lots of PT for the next 1.5 years which sometimes helped but I later found no correlation between the PT (tried a few of them) and pain free days. So I quit.
I decided again that this too, was all TMS. Now the upper back pain and previous low back pain have disappeared completely. When I lift heavy things I now tell myself this will NOT hurt me. The next day I am a little sore (like anyone would be) and then I'm fine. No spasm or pain. No drama.
The pelvic floor spasm/groin pain etc. has subsided 95% but I'm still having it flare up occassionally after stressful events/thoughts.
I now ignore it and focus on my emotional state instead. I am mindful of my "gut reaction" to events and thoughts, moment by moment. I ignore the physical symptoms. I have found it has worked on all my physical issues: neck pain, pain behind eyes, dry eyes, allergies, etc. They come and then go very fast. I don't let them take root in my thoughts or my nervous system.
As a result, I sleep better which in turn also decreases physical symptoms, anxiety and pain. It is a viscious cycle. It takes a while to get this connection and break the cycle. Just keep the faith.
I slso happened to stop my PT when my insurance stopped paying after 25 visits. This was the best thing that happened to me because I realized that PT really did not help in the long term.

SarnoFan,
Thank you so much for your response. I was so frustrated with htis whole thing that I went out and worked in my garden....which I was told not to do. At first it hurt and then it stopped. The next day I did the same. Then the next day I was having a good deal of stress and had not slept and the pain was back. So I do see the correlation that you are talking about. I am suppose to start with a new pt...I will let you know. Cee
