I am a 34 year old female and have had strange symptoms for the past few months and after several tests, several specialist and several "normal" results I am still sitting here with the same fear that something is very wrong and no one can help me. I have a strange numbness and tingling sensation throughout my legs, mostly my butt cheeks...I know it's wierd. It gets worse if I wear more fitted jeans or shorts. I also started getting a tightning sensation in my throat that seems pretty constant. As I am typing this I have the numbness in my right leg and my throat feels like something is choking me. I have no medical conditions, I have suffered anxiety attacks for the last few years but have them under control for the most part. Any suggestions....what do I do???

anxiety is creating all of that, if all tests show negative. and if you really want to and commit, you can get rid of ALL of that. the thing with the tight jeans, i had that, too. somehow our skin gets overly sensitive in an anxiety state.
you have to bring yourself to a state where you really, truly want to get better, your soul has to be ready for it, and you will get better.

If you have seen medical professionals, had the appropriate tests, and ruled out any serious disease or structural problems, then it is likely that these are all TMS symptoms.

Accept all of the symptoms as benign indicators that you have psychological issues to address. Then, dig deep and explore what is really going on in your life that you are not truly facing up to.

I agree w/ Sarita and Dave. Congratulations on finding this site -- you have the power to be rid of this and change your life forever. Read as much as you can about tms (this site, Sarno's books, the wiki, etc.) and start focusing on your thoughts instead of your body. Best wishes!!

sarno says anxiety is tms, tms is also anxiety. call it as you want. but the main thing, i think, that has to happen is called "change". i am learning what a HUGE factor fear is. fear is the fuel. and i think a lot of fear can be generated unconsciously, just like any other feeling.
balance is another key word. no one can feel unbalanced, unhappy, worried, lonely and not eventualy have symptoms. thats the root cause, our feelings. but luckily once we find the key, we can work on it.
crk is right; read as much as you can!

Thank you guys for your input, maybe now that I know there are other people out there that can relate and say that they too have had these symptoms and it was stress related,it may help me to get better.

You are having a version of any anxiety attack as others have stated.....I know because I have had these attack on and off for over 20 years with all kinds of strange symptoms. My family gets so annoyed with me but if you haven't experienced it, I guess it is hard to understand. I have had that throat thing and after my Mom died my skin would tingle like I had electricity running through me....it finally settled down. Anxiety stinks, but I bet that is what you have.
All the best,
Cee

I had the feeling of electricity running through me too, when my stress and anxiety was at its worst. It was really hard to explain to others! And during this time, my right leg, from the butt cheek down to my toes, went completely numb. I was terrified to drive my car. Scariest things I had ever experienced in my life. That was only 6 months ago, and I'm doing MUCH better now. Now when I'm feeling anxiety or stress, only the bottom of my foot might tingle a little bit. Once you're aware of the cause of your physical symptoms (anxiety/stress/TMS) and understand it, the fear is easier to control over time and the symptoms decrease. I'm so thankful I found this site, the people here have helped me so much! Good luck!

I just wanted to add that when I'm overly stressed, I do still get weird symptoms. But they don't last nearly as long as before, because I'm aware that my body is reacting to my stress, not some strange, undiagnosable disease.

Is it normal to have that these symptoms are constant, I find it odd that even on days that I am relaxing or feel relaxed that the symptoms are still present. I have been going through an extremely difficult emotional time lately...I guess I just thought with anxiety the common symptoms like eating habits, sleep disturbance, upset stomach were all normal....I have never met anyone who had the same strange symptoms that I have...thanks again for everyone's input. Now how do I deal with the anxiety???

I suggest that you re-read Dr. Sarno to make sure you understand how the symptoms are related to repressed unconscious emotions rather than stress.

The fact that you "feel relaxed" on a conscious level does not mean anything as far as TMS is concerned. There are emotions deep inside that are causing unconscious rage that manifest as TMS symptoms. So, even if you are relaxed on the surface, be sure to explore the ugly, forbidden, irrational feelings that are going on inside you and which you are not fully knowing or accepting.

Your symptoms are not strange for an anxiety sufferer. It takes a longer time for a body to get back to a normal state (even when you don't feel stressed) than it took to get agitated initially. A website that describes and addresses your exact symptoms (and other bizarre ones) is www.anxietycentre.com Click on "Anxiety Symptoms" and then go down the list to find yours and click on them. You'll be relieved to know they are normal!

The author of this website, Jim Folk, acknowledges Dr. Sarno in a section dealing with back tension/spasms. He tells you nottogive up in spite of persisiting symptoms. He alsotells you not to fear your symptoms because they are harmless, just as Dr. Sarno does.
