Hello!
I have a problem with my foot. I think I had damaged a tendon with a bad shoe. A hard part of the shoe was rubbing over a tendon and it was painfull to the touch. As I removed the shoe the pain very significally weakened. After standing up all day I thought it is normal to have pains, so I did not pay much attention to them until they got too strong to be ignored.
So I went to doctor and was diagnosed with tenosynovitis. Rest, anti-inflamatory drugs, foot “splint”, two weeks of rest with very limitied motion – staying in home, one week of occasional walking and getting out. The tendon was initially tender on palpation and then improved to being painfull only to hard palpation. However now it is different, more bulging than the tendon of the other leg.
I returned to work for one week and there I had to be standing and walking around all day. I had some minor pains(lets call it discomfort and heaviness, not raelly pains), but the bulging tendon bothred me, I thought that walking around all day was harmfull in my current condition , so I took two weeks off.
The doctors said different things : one said you will be fine with time; another wanted a local steroid injection; another one found more problems that should not exist (tender and painfull to heavy palpation synovial canal in another place). Now the last problem, even if it was there, after 3 weeks of rest should had disappeared, it wasn’t painfull in the beginning so it was not severe. The last doctor also insists that the problem of the bulging tendon (my main concern) is tendonitis/tendinosis while I am pretty convinced that it is tenosynovitis, based on a history and sympthoms.

I am afraid that the steroid injection will trigger all sorts of nasty problems, including worsening TMS. Also, due to the fear that I will lose my job, that I am not treated properly(by the doctors) and this thing will become chronic I think that I am in TMS episode. So, due to TMS my recovery could be slowed down or even halted.
Just for the record I have had a TMS in my arms before…

Thanx for reading! Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi Adida,

I am not a doctor, and this is just an opinion.

If you go to the doctor and ask about "pain," there is only ONE path that doctor can take: a physical diagnosis. Giving a physical diagnosis is their livelihood. The evidence for the diagnosis? Pain. Can you see the circle?

A "null hypothesis" is when there is no proof that would lead a person to a different conclusion. "Doc, thanks for the diagnosis, but just out of curiosity, what conditions would have to exist or not exist in order for you to say 'this is not a physical ailment but a psychosomatic one?'" There are NO conditions under which 99.999% of the physicians in this country will diagnose pain as psychosomatic.

I cannot tell what is happening to you; I am a stranger on the internet. But YOU can see tms when it exists. You feel the fear and anxiety and the pain flares. The pain moves or gets worse during emotional moments. The pain does not heal, ever. It does not respond to "treatment" and perhaps even gets worse.

I hope you will find some relief here. There are so many wonderful, positive messages and great ideas posted on this site. You might have to dig through old posts to find them.

Best wishes.
