Before I found out about TMS, one doctor told me my arm pain and numb hands were probably results of diabetes. So he went ahead and did blood work on me and found that my blood sugar was slightly higher than normal. Right then and there he proclaimed me diabetic, prescribed medication, and said my issues would subside once I lowered my blood sugar.

I'm not overweight, but I've gotten my sugar down to just about normal by eating better and adding a little exercise. But of course the pain and numbness is still there and has actually INCREASED since that doctor visit 5 months ago. Now that I know my pains are caused by stress and TMS, I also know why my blood sugar was higher than it should have been when I was tested that day. The liver releases sugar into the blood during times of stress to prepare the muscles for fight or flight, so with my non-stop stress/panic attacks at the time, my liver was constantly throwing glucose at me. No wonder it was abnormal at the time.

Being told I was diabetic sent me into a whole new world of stress, plus guilt was added to the mix because I felt irresponsible for not taking better care of myself. Later on an endocrinologist told me there's no way I was diabetic and my pain was not due to high blood sugar. So, I was just wondering if anyone else has been mistakenly told that their pain and numbness was from diabetes. I'm still furious at that one doc, but I believe everything happens for a reason. It's what I needed to push me back into exercising and eating right, so I am thankful for that at least!

Did he do the bloodwork after you had fasted? It couldn't be reliable otherwise, as far as I know.
