...I've always dislike them because they are so often explicit and inappropriate, and they always seem to come on in full force at dinner time. Since I learned about TMS I've really come to loathe them. I'm trying to tell myself that my pain is psychological and some stupid commercial comes on telling me how serious rheumatoid arthritis (my current fear) is and how I need to talk to my doctor right away about whatever potion it is that they are hawking.

And I made the mistake a few weeks ago of doing some searches on arthritis on Yahoo and now EVERY TIME I go into my Yahoo mail, I get ads for RA drugs!

It really sickens me how much subliminal influence these ads have on me. I suppose the less TV I watch, the better, right?

and what about all the infomercials for phony "cures" for back and joint pain you see all the time? they must work for some people due to a placebo effect, just like faith healers and medicine men.

Hehe, was that a purposeful pun? :)

I have no doubt that drug advertising has probably contributed to many people's TMS pain. Big companies spend billions every year to sell you a product whether you need it or not. It's the trick of advertisers to make you think you can't live without whatever they have to sell.

You are right to be sick with anger! Avoiding ads by watching less TV, reading less mainstream websites and print media is one way to remove YOURSELF from the problem. Way to take action!

Not sure if this would work with Yahoo mail, but maybe try switching to Firefox Mozilla browser...there's lots of cool ad-blocking add-on programs you can download.

Remember to talk to your brain: if you're not gonna take fear-based thinking from IT then you're certainly not gonna take it from some company trying to turn a quick buck.

Ha! No, I did not even realize I had phrased it that way. And you're right, I'm not taking this any more from anyone!

I usually get seasonal allergies immediately after Claritin starts running their ads. TMS

All of us are prone to suggestive influence. Our minds are quick to latch on to whatever is in vogue.

I remember the first time I suffered with angio-edema. It was after I took Aleve. I then remembered that I had read the warnings label and I consciously do not remember the facial swelling bit, but I did read it and it did register unconsciously enough for the mind to use it as a symptom. I've had angio-edema several times since though have never taken Aleve.

I remember years ago I wrote a poem, I thought it was pretty good but then a few days later on the radio I heard a new song by a popular artist with the lyrics almost identical to what I had written. No it's not ESP. I must have heard the song once and consciously did not register it but my unconscious mind did.

It's been said we only use (consciously and probably otherwise) about 1/10th of one percent of our brain's capacity.
