I have finally gotten off medications of Cymbalta but the only side effect I am dealing with daily is a feeling of unsteadiness. It feels like I am on a rocky boat almost daily. been to dr and had various tests done and nothing is ever founded. What should I do? alison |

Hi Alison, How long have you been off of the medication? If it has been long enough for the chemicals to be out of your system (they are normally processed and excreted by particular organs depending on the drug), then this would not be a side effect.
A side effect is a symptom experienced (usually negative), while we are taking a medication. The chemicals may give us the desired effect (improving mood for example), but also may cause another effect (side effect). Is it possible that this is a symptom of withdrawal? I am not familiar with the withdrawal symptoms, if any, for this med, but your doctor or pharmacist should be. But again, withdrawal symptoms would only last so long, then resolve. Even serious injuries heal remember? Our bodies are resilient, strong and have amazing healing capabilities.
If you have been checked out, it sounds like the MD isn't attributing your unsteadiness to coming off the med. You should always have a new symptom evaluated by your doctor.
That said, I believe others on the board have experienced unsteadiness (and or dizziness) as their TMS symptom imperative. Try doing a search on the forum. You should find many posts relating to it.
You could try approaching this symptom as if it is TMS and see if it improves. How do you do this? *Focus on what's going on in your life that could be causing stress or uncomfortable emotions. *Journal about those things. *re-read Sarno *Re-assure yourself that this is most likely just TMS in order to reduce your fear of it (fear perpetuates TMS---what you resist, persists) *distract yourself with pleasant experiences (music, nature, funny movies, good friends, a hot cup of coffee or tea, a cold cup of lemonade--you get the idea--anything you like) *take care of yourself. Say no occasionally (give yourself permission). *Try positive affirmations, for example: before you go to sleep, tell your self that you will awake the next day feeling well, steady and strong.
If any of these things reduce your symptoms in any way, even temporarily, then that's a huge clue that this is most likely TMS.
Take care Peg

Hi, I am so sorry I havent written in a while.. Basically I have been off the pill for over a month and still feel a slight bit of tilting whether sitting or standing... It may be in my mind becasue I knoiw when I went to counseling the other day I felt a bit of relief, for a split second it wasnt in existence until I really thought of it.. My doctor said as far as the medication it is completly out of my system.. the medications do have side effects but they shuld have subsided.. which most of it has but this one symptom. its like my whole life is consumed by it. I never weant to be back on a medication like the effexors or cymbalta nor do i want to live with this tiltin in my head.. any othersuggestions?
