I had posted my whole story about a week ago, and now I have devoloped a new symptom... My elbow has a pain... I've been back on the weights for a Month, and have had the pain move from my back, to my shoulder, to my wrist, now to my elbow.
I was working out, Doing Lat Pulldowns, and I just got this funny feeling in my left elbow. I figured it was TMS, and just worked through it, its been quite a few days and it is still bothering me.
The weird thing is it only hurts sometimes, I can do Dumb-bell Bench with 70 lb DBs with no pain, but If I curl any weight over 15 lbs It hurts. I find this strange, It will hurt when I do certain things, and Im like oh this will hurt, or I wonder if this will hurt. But If I am not thinking of it, there will be no pain. The only thing that scares me is it pops, like if I extend my elbow all the way it will sometimes pop.
Just looking for some people who have experienced the same thing, or people who have had Wicked bad Symptom Imperative.. And Any weightlifters who could explain, why my low back, when I do Back Extension will feel 100% better and no pain at all for about an hour after?!? What gives?

Hi there,
I'm not a weight lifter, but what you describe about the pain that changes location and is intermittent seems consistent with TMS. I've had pain that moves from one spot to another and that comes and goes in an irrational manner, so I know it can be frustrating to experience. Since you're in a high stress situation, it would not be surprising to see TMS creating the kind of symptoms you describe.
As for popping, I used to have popping in my lower back with a certain twisting movement, followed by pain, but when I learned about TMS it stopped.
One of the most frustrating things about TMS is that we do want to make sure there is no other problem going on, but if we see a doctor about the symptoms they may diagnose a physical problem just because they don't understand the mindbody effects of TMS. So you'll have to figure out whether to see a doctor about the popping and then decide whether what your doctor tells you about the popping seems logical for your situation or whether the popping is just another TMS effect.
When you can, you might find it useful to do a search on the forum to find threads that discuss popping, because I know it's been discussed before.
Wishing you well! |
