Just back from vacation. And I noticed that I felt much better when I was away. In spite of visiting my mother grave... I lost her 4 years ago and I can't go over the loss yet. 2 years ago my health problem began. How about you guys? Do you feel any difference while you away? |

Hi from another Canadian, Yes I was just thinking about this the other day. When I go on vacation I always feel much better. I always attributed it to not having to lift things and do housework but now I think it's conditioning. My brain is conditioned to feel pain when I'm at home lifting and bending, sitting at the computer etc. I did quite well skiing even though I was told not to ski because of a deformity in my neck.

Yes. I started having pain on the plane ride home from vacation 2 years ago--was uncomfortable to sit. Next 2 trips--same thing-pain in the butt (literally) on the plane rides home. After whole TMS episode (read on Success link) which put me out of commission, part of my writing was about issues in everyday life. I viewed vacation as an escape; now I view it as rest and extended time of relaxation! Haven't had butt pain coming home from vaca in a > year now. I get to test it out again this week. I haven't even thought about it until now either! LOL I'm sure I'll be fine. -Lori |

So many people reading this post, but only two of us feel the same... I can't stop think on what is happening...Why I felt so different.. Better, much better. I don’t know where to find the answer. Because I feel everyday different symptoms, I still believe in TMS. But again, I lack of confidence… . |

I have definitely noticed the same thing. Last year when my RSI was still bad, and before i read the MBP, I went on holiday with my family for 2 weeks. While I was there I did lots of things that i considered ' bad' for my condition at the time - not doing my stretches regularly, drinking lots, lying around on the beach in the cold - and none of it affected me as badly as it usually would. I felt much cheerier and less trapped as well.
I think it is because a holiday literally takes you away from the everyday stressors, from your usual day-to-day self. I felt like on a holiday I was 'allowed' to relax, to not think about the future or my illness or run around trying to do things. I was 'allowed' to sit on a sofa with a book, get drunk, go for long walks, and just live in the moment. The pressure was lifted.
Now I can see how powerful that was for me, when i was used to putting myself under so much pressure and when i was unconsciously so terrified about the future. No wonder the symptoms eased off! |

ITS TMS DEFINITLY.That way i realised i didnt have nerve entrapment as i was told.I had a lots of pain from waist down(but, groins, legs, perineum, feet....)and it was because ,,nerve entapment''.LOL.I went for some snowboarding as ussual in winter and whata a miracle, had zero pain for 10 days.Sitting, riding snowboard, falling a lot, and no pain at all. That was strange.i tought it went by it self. But when i came home in 2 days it came back full force.Next month i went for mountains again and same thing hapend. No pain there ,came home pain again. Then i realised that there is something else, not nerve entrapment.Luckly i find about TMS and in May it will be one year since i started using TMS approach.I am fully recovered now, have some troubles sometimes, but i just laugh at them and they are gone very quickly.
So if you checked your self at doctors and they couldnt find nothing wrong with you, just guessing,Keep it TMS way.
Good luck.
P.S. soory about my english. |

The vacation relief shows that it isn't just suppressed past and childhood issues which we have to deal with but also all the nitty gritty from every day life.
Vacation means a break from those many, apparently trivial, issues. |

I agree 100% TMS. A couple of years ago I had foot pain, couldn't walk on it felt like it was made of glass ready to shatter, I went to a chiropractor, got an X-ray, expensive shoe inserts, and still lots of pain.
Then I went to europe for 3 weeks, guess what i walked more in those 3 weeks than i could remember and NO PAIN! I get back to US and pain is back. Then about that time I came across one of Sarno's books and foot pain is all gone.
The nitty gritty, is what gets us, the feeling of being out of control. Make peace with the inner child and give yourself a break once in a while.

To Stefan: Could you tell me a little more on how you healed your foot pain? I had left heal pain for 4 years before reading Dr. Sarno's books. After reading, I stopped wearing the orthotics, stopped wearing high heals and told my brain my heel was in perfect health. The pain was completely gone in about 7 weeks. As soon as I realized the pain was gone, it moved to the right heel. I can't seem to get rid of it. I had food poisoning a couple weeks ago. While I was laying close to the toilet for 3 days, my heel was pain free. I told my self it was pain free now and can continue to be pain free. Healthy and strong. Within days, the pain was back! So aggrevating. Any thoughts would help. I even use other healing such as the tapping of pressure points and saying "even tho I have this heal pain, I deeply and completely love and accept myself without judgement." With no help. Thanks everyone, I love this forum.
