I have not written in about a year, so I thought I'd share my experience since then.
Well, I had lots of TMS symptoms and most of them are gone with only a few returning occassionally. I am getting very good at responding with a trick from the Sarno books. Symptoms are much more mild and end quickly. I call the year before I found the Sarno book in my Dad's crowded office "The Year of Pain". I also had panic attacks. I had to have my first root canal that year, I had a newborn, a crappy marriage, parents who one had had a stroke and another diagnosed with liver cancer.
I was in over my head with stressors. Since then I found Sarno and the TMS theory, which I believe was a saving grace, and have separated from my "husband" (still not divorced). I have had no more panic attacks. It took a lot of training my brain to respond differently to the pains.
I can't say there is an absolute end to TMS for me, but I definitely have a power over the symptoms and that makes me a much more confident and fearless person. I have still been under lots of stresses, but the fear is so much less, that I am amazed at who I am compared to who I was in the "Year of Pain." I hardly talk about pain anymore. That's a huge difference. I laugh inside at all the bone crackles and pops. I tell my brain "I know what you're up to, you can't fool me."
I get way less headaches. My butt doesn't hurt like it used to. my knees are strong. If I get a twinge, it lasts only a short while and stops my activities in no way.
So, for all you who are en route to healing, I can vouch for the mental connection to these symptoms. There is hope. I have taken time away from the forum to make sure. My life is so much better. I wonder where I'd be if I never found that book? Probably in knee surgery or on medication.
I just want to express my gratitude to Sarno and for this forum because it really has helped me become who I am meant to be: a strong, athletic, coordinated, fearless, understanding, healthy person.

Marian, thank you for sharing your experience. You sound wonderful!
I too have no doubts of the mind/body connection as I've seen it in myself and others.
You mention gratitude--which is something I've learned to spend more time focusing on.
Best wishes to you in the next phase of your life!
