Anyone here with heart palps as a distraction? Mine have been pretty bad the last couple of weeks, I am afraid to exercise again which isn't helping me out in any way. I did have a holter monitor a few years ago which turned up nothing the Doctors seemed to worry about so I don't know any reason for it other than stress.
Yep, I had them a few years ago, before I had any concept of stress impacting health. Went to a heart doctor and nothing was found -- did the holter monitor thing as well.
It only lasted a few weeks, during which I adjusted my food and medication (allergy) intake one-by-one hoping to isolate the cause. Then it just went away.
Palpitations are one of those things that there's generally no clear cause for. I almost went nuts Googling about it because:
1) No clear cause 2) Everyone has theories 3) Doctors usually find nothing
Fortunately now I know better -- I know to look for mental causes, especially when there's no clear physical cause.
Had them too (and still have them ocassionally) Definitely precipitated by stress / anxiety - and most doctors (even non-TMS) believe they are harmless.
Although driven by stress / anxiety, I think that magnesium supplements can help - see here: http://www.ctds.info/heart-palpitations.html (some might also suggest that a higher potassium / lower sodium diet can help)
There may be associations between stress and depleted magnesium
I agree 100% with mcone! I have the same problem and take a liquid calcium/magnesium each night before I go to sleep and I noticed a difference within 2 days of starting it. You might want to check your thyroid as well to see if you're hyperthyroid.
Oh you guys are right and I forgot all about the magnesium/palp relationship. I was taking some a while back to ease some of my anxiety symptoms but have not for some time. I'll get back on that see if it helps.
