Hi all, first time poster on this board.
I've just read the TMS books by Dr Sarno & Dr Sopher, & am intrigued. I have had RSI symptons for approximately 7 years, which has included nearly 3 years off work (I work mainly as a software designer/programmer). I have problems with both hands/writs/arms, & have had every type of treatment available (including a carpal tunnel release operation a few years ago), none of which have had any effect.
After reading about TMS, I have started to feel quite excited at the prospect that this could be my problem, as I would finally have an accurate diagnosis (I have had many doctors here in the UK tell me I must be making up the symptoms in order to avoid working), & a possiblility of getting better & returning to work again.
Having read other posts in this forum, it appears to me that there are no TMS doctors here in the UK, or even anywhere in Europe. So, my question is: has anyone in the UK actually been diagnosed as having TMS by a TMS doctor? Has anyone from the UK travelled overseas to see a TMS doctor? Do TMS doctors in the USA see patients from abroad? Does anyone know if Dr Sarno himself sees patients from abroad? It occurs to me that since I was planning a trip to the USA soon anyway, I could maybe try & combine it with a visit to a TMS doctor.
I know that most people probably self-diagnose TMS in themselves, & probably get better without ever seeing a TMS doctor. However, I understand that to get better, you must first believe 100% that TMS is the problem. So, to get a diagnosis from a TMS doctor would remove any doubts I might have, & give me reassurance that I can get better. I would also like to be able to prove to other medical professionals here in the UK that I am not merely inventing my symptons!
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

What will a TMS doctor further tell you that you already don't know? Just asking.
******* Sarno-ize it! Read chapter 4 of Dr. Sarno's "The Divided Mind." Also chapers 3, 4 and 5 in Dr. Scott Brady's "Pain Free For Life" are very important. |

John,
Have confidence -- after successfully treating myself and seeing the success rate on the board, I believe that there's no such thing as structural RSI that's chronic and unresponsive to treatment -- that type is TMS. Read the SuccessStories for RSI, especially HilaryN, and check out http://conquerrsi.com/ and http://podolsky.everybody.org/rsi/.
Take the leap. You don't need a doctor to help you.
If you want to be in touch with a TMS doctor, I believe I've seen info from others that Dr. Sopher will answer inquiries by email, though he doesn't make official diagnoses that way.
-- It's not 100% belief that's required, but 100% commitment. |
