I', sure most of you are aware of my many symptoms through my life that could be attributed to TMS. Severe Teen Acne, IBS, OCD, Asthma, Anxiety, Depression, and finally chronic pain.
But I forgot to mention that when my chronic pain or OCD was went into overdrive, it was always accompanied by "tics". They're not really tics that are uncontrollable like in Tourettes Syndrome, but they are movements I do out of tension. I don't really do them in public, and if I do I hide them pretty well. Nobody has ever really noticed but me.
Has anyone else ever had anything like this in their life? I was wondering if there could be a connection. |

I used to do it with my neck, sort of a quick head shake thing, really quick and bilateral. My wife used to get annoyed with me, but I didn't know I was doing it. I stopped it, but I always felt the need to crack my neck. Classic tension buildup spot, and classic attempt to relieve it! I've been on the TMS road for many, many years, I have now discovered. |

I had an eye tic that came on as my pain went away. I used the TMS approach to get rid of it. |

I get minor eye tics when I'm particularly tense.

Oh yeah, the eye tic. Before I got hit hard by TMS pain, the eye tic was my body's way of telling me, enough, let's get the F out of here! I had a boss for awhile that caused so much rage/fear that I had the eye tic for four straight months.
When I kicked the TMS pain, the eye tic made a come back but I used the same methods and kicked it too. |

Also, if I'm really nervous or afraid, I'll start shivering like I'm cold. I feel like, if I let it, the shivering could get out of control and turn into a seizure. The first time this happened was at summer camp when I was 11 and I was irrationally terrified that a bear was going to drag me out of my tent.
I get it now, sometimes, when I have to read my writing out loud, in public. It's very unsettling this about to shake apart feeling; but I just sort of "talk myself down." I do wonder though, if what I feel is akin to what it feels like for epileptics before a seizure starts. |

My boyfriend has those same tics, but he never read the TMS book like I did. He does have OCD, so maybe there's definitely a connection
He snaps his neck a lot & always attributes it to tension. And when I hear the cracking sound he always tells me "see it's not just a tick I really needed to do it", but it's a constant thing, especially when he gets excited.
Is this also linked to TMS? |
