Hi! Thanks for all your post. If you had to pick thing you did to heal yourself what would you say it was? What can you tell me that might help me on top of what is in Dr. Sarnos book? Thanks Jimmy |

Dear Jimmy,
Abosolutely nothing else. It's all contained in Sarno's books. Trying to end TMS psychogenic pain with anything in addition to what's in Sarno's books is placebo, temporary, a waste of time, or will only massage your wallet.
Have you identified, any of life's events, on page 26, of MBP, that create dis-ease, internal rage and TMS psychogenic pain?
Best wishes and good luck, tt |

There comes a time when you have to stop searching for answers in books and search for the answers within yourself. |

Hotshot. All I did on top of what Sarno says was using the resentment inventory form the Big Book of AA. I had been thru the 12 step program to escape a horrible Cocaine addiction. There is a portion where you list 1.People,places and institutions that have made you angry. 2.WHY you're angry 3.How this affects your ego e.g. pride, personal relationships 4.Where we were selfish, dishonest, self seeking, frightened
Take note*...I had recovered from drug addiction so I had quit writing these inventories,as I felt them useless and mundane.....after you start writing down all your resentments regularly, you start to see how petty, hypocritical, and redundant all your anger is.
So...I quit doing them.6 months after I stopped,I broke out with the episode of TMS that took me to the mat.Little did I know, the whole time I was regularly writing about my anger,I was actually staving off TMS ....when I stopped writing all that stuff piled up like a dumpster overflowing!
I haven't read MBP in a couple of years, but I suppose you could turn the list all the other forum posters speak of,into a workbook.I would say that actually picking up a pen and paper, and going somewhere quiet to reflect is a fairly useful tool.I'm NOT recommending the AA thing....I think any format of confronting your anger and suppressed rage would be therapeutic.Talking about it with someone else is nowhere near effective as talking about it with yourself!!
ALSO: My copy of HBP is almost illegible,as I have filled the margins with notes and inspirations about possible stressors, and flashes of awakening....It's not a book...It's a tool. Be careful of going too far outside the TMS family...lots of well meaning people who sense intuitively that illness is psychological in nature might actually guide you AWAY from your anger, when the truth is you need to move closer to it.AA encourage you to "let go" of your anger, but after trying for a decade,I'm not sure exactly how one let's go...(I am no longer a member)
Louise Hay comes to mind. She has written many books on the subject of self-induced symptoms, but has no explanation like sarnos model. In fact she encourages you to step towards a bit of mysticism and positive thinking.."letting go".When you are a TMSer,you need to go to the dirty, dark bad part of town and hang out there, not the happy ,crystal gazing pep rally! It's quite a paradox....we must embrace that which is Hurting us.
dig and dig and dig and dig.
peace Marc.
