Hi All, One of my equivalents is constant obsession w/my health and believing I've got a horrible disease. I think this is common among us. I've got a GYN appt in 10 days and need something to alleviate some anxiety in the meantime. I'm assuming the worst w/these symptoms. Any advice? Nor |

Hi Nor, I'm sorry your driving yourself round this bend. I think I know what you are going thru as I used to do the same thing to myself, it was so FRIGHTENING and very real!!!! Last year I was convinced I had Lupus (among many other diseases) and that the FLEET of doctors who were treating me for all my physical problems were completely inept and misdiagnosing me. I had some menstrual issues too, but my problems were not disease related, unless you call TMS a disease. It was dreadful and my mind and body played cruel tricks on me.
Try really hard to stay in each moment, and remind yourself that you have everything you need to live right now. If for some reason, your anxiety is warranted and you do have some dreadful thing wrong, doctors will help you. Do you have anything that calms you, like peaceful music or bubble baths? I know that sounds rather simplistic, but just taking moments for yourself each day can really help to calm your nerves.
Have you read any Sarno? Do you know that anxiety feeds TMS bigtime? Same with hypochodriasis (sp?) ... What other TMS work, or anxiety demoting tactics have you tried? Have you journaled?
Hang in there. I only just caught your thread, as your post was so small I completely overlooked it, as I suspect others here have.

Thanks Penny and Shawnsmith for responding. This forum is great at telling you what you sort of already know but need to hear anyway. Yes, I've read a lot of Sarno. I'm kind of a veteran of TMS. But its such a process as opposed to an event that I fade in and out of being a good TMS student. I will wait and comfort myself. The obsession w/symptoms is one of the most difficult things for me to get over. The physical symptoms were easier to beat. I'm always in awe of people who can go for bloodwork or a test and not freak out w/anxiety while waiting for results. Denial and detachment can be very useful.
Thanks again so much. I'll keep you posted. Nor |

(((((((((((Nor)))))))))) Your welcome. I wanted to share with you alittle success I had yesterday. I was overdue for some blood work and had been putting it off for months b/c I used to get SO upset and anxious and my TMS flared. Yesterday I was in my doc office neighborhood and I just popped in w/o an appt and had the blooddraw done. That was it. I sat in the waiting room for a few mins while the nurse prepped my lab request, and I was calm, looked at fish, then went in and did it. I didn't even obsess over whether or not they were doing the right tests on me. It was such a casual experience for me, that I didn't even notice how different this was for me until I read your thread!
It is possible to get over the anxiety and create new patterns. I am living proof, Nor! If I can do it, so can YOU!!!!
