Hi all,
Does anyone here experience dizziness and balance problems as a TMS equivalent?

Hi. I sometimes suffer with dizziness, especially when I'm really stressed. If you suffer regularly, it may be worth checking it out with your doctor to rule out anything serious though.

No, but 6 years ago (before I knew about TMS) I was experiencing that. I am glad I did not know about TMS back then or I might have put off going to see an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist. And the tumor growing in my brain would have grown even larger. As it is, I still lost my hearing on one side when they took it out. Dr. Sarno says in TDM to rule out anything serious before assuming your symptoms are from TMS.

Sorry to just be getting back to your replies. I have been to positively every ENT in this city (Charlotte NC). I've had CAT scans, MRI's, audio testing for hearing loss and meneries disease. I've had sinus and adnoid surgery and have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and am using CPAP therapy during the night. I have been to doctor after doctor and feel as though I have been chasing smoke for all these years. The TMS theory is the only thing I've ever heard (from anyone) that makes any sense as none of my efforts have yielded any resolutions. Working with the TMS idea and Sarno's books I am having some success with my leg/back/butt pain but the head stuff like wooziness, dizziness and balance problems seem to be getting more pronouced. I am sick of running to conventional doctors and getting nowhere but I am also sick of feeling this way and limiting my activites because of fear.

Crystal, I also had a lot of testing done with no explanation for balance/dizziness. I had a lot of neuro symptoms that seemed like MS, so I thought the balance and dizziness was due to MS. I've stopped having the other neuro symptoms, except for an occassional flare which I can "think" away with TMS knowledge, and my balance and dizziness has greatly diminished. I don't have it as often and it's not as extreme when it does happen. So I do believe that balance and dizziness can be due to TMS, although there are other conditions that can also cause that type of symptom. If your test have turned up nothing and you have other TMS type symptoms, I would suspect this may also be TMS.

Funny you mention dizziness. I mostly lurk here at the moment since I'm pretty new but I had problems with dizziness that really freaked me out about a year ago. Turned out that allergies were causing some kind of inner-ear issues and taking allergy medication really helped me. Now, I'm wondering if perhaps the whole thing was TMS-related to begin with...

Hi Crystal, Yes, I did. Docs considered MS, SLE, among many other diseases--all were ruled out, thankfully. My dizziness began during pregnancy, and I blacked out too. I was particularly haunted by articles and doctors who said some diseases were not easily diagnosed and therefore was convinced for ages that I was dying from something undiagnosed.

When I get dizzy now I try to quickly shift my thinking to psychologicial, since everything "organic" has been ruled out. Looking back on myself before accepting TMS, I SO desperately wanted to be diagnosed with something that I could get sympathy and emotional support from friends and family: This delayed my healing time and led me to not buy into TMS info right away. Once I realized that no one was going to save me or suffer with me, I consciously decided to save myself and suffer through some ugly emotions instead of my pain syndromes and dizziness. (I'm not saying this is at all what you are doing, but I just offer this to you b/c this was so unobvious to me.)

Hang in there, Crystal. You've been working with a lot of docs and testing. Search "dizziness" in our forum. There are a lot of older posts about it. It's a scary symtpom b/c it can be associated with so many diseases, but the fact that you've had a team of docs on your case to no avail, well, that sounds very possibly TMS. Good luck and welcome to our forum.
