I have always considered myself a fairly quick study. I embraced Sarno's theory before I turned the third page of his book. Saw myself in most everything he said. I even have attributed a nagging shoulder pain to the traveling "gremlin". First I thought, a while ago, that the shoulder was sore because that was the side I used for a cane, 6 weeks post op for back surgery. Haven't used a cane in 3 months or more and the shoulder pain is getting worse. No problem, said I. It's the TMS playing games with you. Ignore it....think emotional, not physical. Let me tell you what happened this morning and tell me if anyone has heard of this or what. About 3 weeks ago (when I first began to read Sarno) my TOOTH began to hurt. It would come and go, sometimes not bother me for several days. Some evenings it was very intense, aching horribly and I'd take a couple of aspirin and it would go away. I hate going to the dentist so it's easy to talk myself out of it. Last night it kicked up around midnight, took 2 aspirin and it didn't go away. Took a third. Went to sleep and when I awoke this AM, it still hurt some. So I decided the day of reckoning had arrived and went to see the dentist this morning. He took X rays. Guess what? NOTHING. So I'm sitting there in the dental chair, waiting for him to write a script for pain and it strikes me like a thunderbolt. Is this TMS? I didn't fill the script, drove home and came straight to my computer to ask: What do ya make of this? Could I be TMSing in my teeth

Your not alone on that LadyBug. That happened to me last year. I'm sure it was TMS. The pain went away when I found out there was nothing wrong with the tooth. |

Me too. I think tooth pain is mentioned in one of the TMS books I've read. Maybe Sopher's book? Anyone remember?

Dr. Sarno clearly points out that TMS or its equivelants can occur in any part of the body. Remember, it is the MindBody connection not the Mind-Body connection.
******* Sarno-ize it! Do you have a pain-prone personality? http://www.bradyinstitute.com/aboutBook/painProne.asp |

********************************************* Hi Ladybug:
I've had tooth pain with no problem in the tooth. Was finally attributed to the TMJ, which I believe is listed as a TMS in the jaw muscle. Interestingly, through most of that, I felt little in that muscle itself--only if I palpated it carefully.
So yes, in my experience this has happened, and it felt worse than many real toothaches.

Yes, I've had tooth pain that can be attributed to TMS... I've litterly had pain move from my leg to my tooth. |

If the dentist has examined your teeth then just forget about it. Is the pain gone now? I have had occasional tooth and sinus pain, both of which could be memory pain from past procedures/infections. Take care, -Stryder |

Exact same thing happened to me. After seeing the dentist, pain faded away. Somewhere Sarno mentions the same thing happening to him as well. |

Yes, as expected, it has not hurt since my visit to the dentist yesterday. Altho I have gone more than 24 hrs without noticing any ache, I believe if it returns again I'll have no trouble ignoring it. It's sometimes pretty scary to know there is a gremlin in your subconcious that feels he/she is stronger than you are! Now that I know about it, I will be battling her daily. Everything else is fully inflamed, my back and now my shoulder. Thinking emotional, not physical. Thank you for all the assurances. Skiz - anyone mention a laminectomy? Not that I suggest you take their advice, I just wonder what it was. Are you doing the journal thing? Please take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.
