She can only drive one car at a time, right. We still live in a country with some vestiges of capitalism and can buy and possess whatever our wallets can afford. A study shows that my Jeep, basicly an anti-aerodynamic, 60 year old design, brick on wheels, getting crappy gas mileage, will have less of a carbon footprint from it's inception to it's demise in the crusher, than a new Toyota Prius.
(Is this the TMS board or the Jeep board, I forgot? This thread was about driving wasn't it?).

Shawn, I don't think you get it. This board is not a democracy, and limiting it to on-topic material is not censorship. This board is (as Stryder so eloquently said) a public, moderated, topic-focused online community and the moderator is a benign dictator. The policy is publicized and if you're here, you've agreed to it:

HUH? Have we hit a nerve here? World, please explain your rather un-flatering opinion of Electraglideman, because it isn't apparent to me. I think your being a bit harsh here. All I can think of is maybe WT hates people with more than one car. Let me test this hypothesis and see if that's it. Electraglideman, that Chevy Z71 pickup must really move. What's the fastest you've ever taken her up to? My dream car is a 289 Cobra, Carroll Shelby is making new one's out of aluminum in his Vegas factory at the Speedway. I will own one before I die and driving it may kill me.

The thing is Hilary, TMSers are extremists and we take everthing to the limit. We are constantly angry on the inside and we want the world to conform to our vision of what we think reality should be. Sounds like an exciting and dynamic life-style to me, Shawn.
I'd rather me a TMS'er than a Monk, sitting in a cave, meditating all day with a bowl of rice for my reward. Not saying that Monks, don't do good work though.

I have to take you up on this - you are saying that TMSers are like the above for ever ------no,no, no
once you deal with your inner problems, self esteem issues, inner rage etc etc etc your TMS symptoms decrease but.... and its a bit BUT your beliefs and attitudes change too. You can ignore petty bickering, brinkmanship, attention seeking. You can accept that others have different views from you - it is no longer an issue. The perfectionism becomes less extreme, criticism washes over you (you are too together to care if another being has a problem with you - that's their issue not yours).
This must be the case judging from the huge number of TMSHelp posters who recover and just move on. Only a few linger on, still posting and arguing. |

You make some excellent points, SD. Not arguing with you, but, as so well stated, in AustinGary's (the founder of this board) statement about his vision, of the TMSHelp Board, (kindly refreshed by Sryder), the board can serve a DIVERSE audience with many differing needs and purposes.
I came here NOT to be healed, but to learn more about TMS and hopefully get the latest and greatest news. Some people posting here are patients of the Good Doctor or other TMS practitioners and are kind enough to inform us of changing TMS developments.
On occasion, we have discussions (maybe arguments) about current events, politics, religion (but unfortunately not enough sex-talk), which helps us get a little better acquainted and chummy. We also disseminate TMS fundamentals to those who seek immediate healing.
I can't think of anyone who has not had their TMS issues addressed here by me or someone else. They might not like what they hear or the way they hear it, and go away in a huff trailing a bunch of curses, but in this life, you get what you pay for.
This board seems to reflect what goes on at all the other boards I've seen whether the topic is stock-picking, automobiles or diabetic cats.
There are many threads, and if someone doesn't like what they witness in one, they may avert their eyes, drive by the car-wreck thread and seek out one that suits their viewpoint, sensibilities, aims and aspirations--or they can start a thread of their own.
I'm personally enjoying and learning from Shawn's, grappling with his issues and working through them and don't feel he should be inhibited from espressing his angsts or personal views, on a sometimes rocky and torturous road to personal transformation. I'm obviously from the "letting it all hang out school"--after 10:00 PM swim-suits are optional in the hot-tub.

TT, I have enjoyed the Chevy Z71 pickup more than any vehicle I've ever owned. I bought it because I'm an avid outdoorsman (hunting and fishing).
As for as speed goes I did have it up to 120mph one time and I chickened out and backed off. I drive it more than anything I own because the ride is exceptional, for a 4X4, and its an extended cab so I have plenty of room to carry my hunting equipment.
I usually trade every three years (its an 02 model)but I've enjoyed this one so much it has become part of the family.
289 Cobra! Now that would be a kick in the ass to drive.

TT, you're cracking me up again. One reason you are a valuable addition to the board. :-)
I used to live in a house with a pool in the backyard. From the former owners there was a sign that from far away appeared to say "No swimming after dark." From close up you could make out a small word "suits" as well.
I sometimes wonder if the whole purpose of Byron Katie's work is kind of like that of a Zen koan. It makes your whole brain get tangled up in knots so eventually your inner critic just shuts up, because there's no end to the thoughts that you can analyze. For other ways to do that I highly recommend getting your inner child's issues brought up at work and getting privately so upset that you just get utterly fatigued and stop judging everything for a while. It's traumatic but ultimately quite nice. But Loving What Is, like Zen koans, doesn't seem to do that for me.

Cool car Art! I used to own a '64 and a '65 cooper 's's, one a RHD. Finally, gave them away for a song because they became mostly rust and broke the last plastic sunroof handle left on the planet. Most fun I've ever had on 4 wheels.
Babies in strollers would look at it and smile. Cavernous interior for such a tiny footprint. Used to hold my 6 ft. blond ex with room to spare. One of the best designs ever, it's designer was knighted by the Queen. Beat all the much more expensive Jags to win the Monte Carlo Rally; not bad for an almost stock vehicle costing $2,500.
I've been longing for one of the new ones since I heard they were gonna' make 'em. I've got a file box of info I've clipped on them. Someday hope to get one especially a convertible. They seem to be true to the original vision. I hear they're coming out with a station-wagon version soon.

Hey T,
I stick my clubs in the front,leaning the bag up over the passenger seat...The car though, as you point out, is remarkably spacious feeling inside...You absolutely do not feel like you're driving a tiny car...I congratulate you on your taste in owning a couple of the originals...I never would have had the imagination or appreciation at that age...
I'm not a car-guy per se, and know very little really, but I love a good ride...The cooper is superb, tight as tight can be with a distinctly go cart feel...With the john cooper works kit, I've got 200 hp available, which in such a small car is quite a punch...
Best car I ever had was my M3...That car was superb. At the time, in the early 90's, leasing them was pretty reasonable...I'll always regret not buying that baby when my lease ran out..But the mini is great...A real hoot, even if it's striclty speaking too much car for me these days...I would have been fine with just the "s," and foregoing the kit..The older I get, the less compelled I feel to drive fast, though I still have my moments.
