As many of you know, the 20/20 segment of Dr. Sarno with John Stossel (whom he had cured), from 1999, had disappeared from Goodnewsbroadcast.com a few weeks ago. I emailed Paul, who said he was a great fan and a cured patient of Dr. Sarno's, but they'd had server problems and had evidently lost the video, and he would try to get it back up. I emailed him a few more times since, but with no results, so I ordered a copy from ABC for $46 and finally received it. I converted it from VHS to DVD, then to .avi, and have uploaded it. I am hoping this is a "fair use" of it, to help people recover from chronic back (and other) pain, as I find it to be very persuasive, and thus helpful in allowing people to accept the TMS diagnosis, the prerequisite to healing.
So, it's now available at: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6660313127569317147 and can be downloaded.
It's also linked to from Wikipedia, at the entries for Dr. Sarno and for TMS.
Enjoy and get well, Ralph

Thanks so much Ralph. Funny how Barbara Walters craps on the idea at the end! |

thanx for posting, Funny how I was thinking about this video today, how the last time I saw this it was so grainy. It was a pleasure watching this. And again, too funny how Barbara poo poos the whole thing by saying she reccomends stretching for people w/ non-emotional back pain. |

THANK YOU so much for getting the clip. I could no longer access it from Wikipedia site.
Barbara can keep on stretching since she claims she doesn't have emotional-related pain or however she put it. LOL But she just doesn't get it, like 85% of the population.
Happy I understand it and have no more back pain! YAY!

BTW I would love to know if Stossel's brother still has this pain or if he's caved and tried Sarno? |

Good work!
$46.... that sure seems high. Maybe not for a special order though. Anyway appreciate your effort to make it available!

Thank You for the information.I use the 20/20 tape frequently to show people how TMS works(also on disc thank to Ralph). I erased the Walters part at the end. That must have irriated Stossel. When people see ABC 20/20 it seems to give some legitimacy to TMS sort of like putting a name brand on it. I'm sure Stossels brother will never listen to reason and give in to TMS. My Dad was a Doctor and always said the medical world does not like to be critized. The same group who use to tell people not to breast feed and kept pregnant women in bed too long after birth and wondered why they got bloodclots! They will stick with mainstream treatment, even though they maintain a very poor success rate. The site will be helpful. Thanks Paul. |

Hey, thanks for all the thanks. It makes the goodist part of me feel very good.
I'm still hoping that I can get Julie to watch this video and finally see the light. But I'm afraid she's much like John Stossel's brother.
Today is the one year anniversary of the day she had her spinal fusion operation, against my advice, and last time I heard from her, she was still in pain, and has recently moved to Arizona because she feels the warmth and dryness is easier to bear. Oh well.

Does anyone know how to burn the file to DVD? The .avi ext isn't recognized because it is a google video ext. Is there a way to convert the file format? |

JohnnyG, did you solve your problem yet? AVI is a very common format, introduced by Microsoft in 1992, and readable by most readers like Windows Media Player. When you downloaded, is the file still in .avi format, or did Google convert it to their own format?

I thought the best part was about what they do when they relapse -- yell at their brain, then just go out and do things anyway. It's the essence of the relaxed, TMS-educated reaction.

I'm amazed that this is from 1999 and from a major network show and since then nothing. I would have thought after something like this he would gain mainstream attention. It's a shame that not much has come from this.
Not only would mainstream acceptance help more people get help, but with more people working on it I feel there would be a better understanding of TMS and better treatments available. |

I agree, Chrisb89, that Sarno's work needs lots more exposure (which is why I posted this video on Google Videos). The 1999 showing did reach a lot of viewers, and made HBP a bestseller, but you're right that Dr. Sarno's work has been mostly ignored by the medical mainstream, which is very sad, and reflects the Cartesian split between mind and body that has dominated Western medical thought for centuries.
It took two and a half years going through the medical establishment for my wife's back pain before we even heard of Dr. Sarno, and that was by coincidence and increasing desperation to find a treatment. Unfortunately, my wife couldn't accept the idea of TMS, and is still in pain. And since none of her friends or relatives had heard of TMS either, they became her enablers in dismissing the only hopeful path to healing for her.
So keep spreading the word to those who can accept it.

I'm bumping this thread back to the top one last time in case anyone missed it. This is an excellent and persuasive video, and I hope everyone got a chance to watch it at least once. I would copy this link to your computer, or remember that you can find it (at least for now) at the entry on Wikipedia for Dr. Sarno or TMS. It can't be found by searching.

You can also bump the thread to the top by changing one character in your original post, then changing it back, and save.
I just watched the clip again, its Awesome!
John Sarno said on 20/20 at 8:24 - "You work very hard, you try to do everything perfectly, and you try to keep everybody happy. That is enraging to the unconscious mind."
Take care, -Stryder |
