Hi All-
I have been dealing with upper GI pain now for over a year. Have been diagosed with small hiatal hernia and mild esophageal irritation. My esophageal motility study was normal.
I have tried all the reflux meds and none have worked at all. I know it is because the pain is really based on emotions causing an esophageal spasm (the harmless type that doesnt show up on motility studies). I do not have classic heartburn symptoms. In fact, laying down seems to improve my condition. I dont react to any particularly acidic foods. I am not overweight. My mother said she suffered from this symptom for quite some time when she was my age - after my father's death. She said it will eventually go away. I am getting so frustrated in living with this pain all the time.
I have gone through a particularly stressful past couple of years related to opening a new business and that causing relationship problems.
I have tried acupunture, chinese herbs, meditation, lexapro. Only thing that helps me is klonopin. I am not currently taking anything. No, I have not been actively journalling as I should
Thinking of making an appointment to see Sarno during a trip home to New York to see my family. Does anyone have a telephone number for him? I am thinking I need a doctor to definatively tell me I am not going to die from "erosive esophagitis" if I dont take Prilosec"
Does anyone have any advice for me?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is Dr. Sarno's #. He will speak with you briefly before you make an appointment. Not sure he sees people who live outside the tri-state area (NY/NJ/CT) but it's worth a shot!
I would get journaling right away and read and re-read his books.

hey justme,
I had heartburn, at least that was the best name I could give it, from like ages 8-10. It was really bad.
I had a lot of other TMS problems growing up now that I look back, and this was one of them, and it had its phase. The way it all of a sudden faded away tells me it was TMS. I never get it today.
Best of luck |

I live in another city in New York, and the secretary (when I called a month ago) basically told me I could only write him as he does not speak to/ see people not in NYC. |
