In a previous post I indicated I was doing much, much better except for a frozen shoulder. Then, while re-reading MBP, one sentence jumped out at me: The pain will not stop unless you are able to say, "I have a normal back." And it dawned on me that I should apply these same words to my shoulder.

The very name, adhesive capsulitis--or frozen shoulder--implies injury and scar tissue. The ultrasound scan showed adhesions. Even knowing I have TMS, I had subconsciously accepted the idea that my shoulder might somehow be separate from my TMS. I had totally bought into the adhesion business. But in thinking about it and using a little common sense for a change, I began to realize any adhesions would be fairly flimsy, easily if painfully broken by deliberate movement of the arm and shoulder. (In fact this does sometimes happen when I move my arm.) What ACTUALLY keeps the shoulder frozen, then, has got to be pure TMS--trapezius and associated shoulder muscles that are sometimes so tight they look and feel welded together. Adhesions alone couldn't possibly do that.

What a revelation!

Yes - I have had many eurekas like this, in which I've thought, "how could it be really physical if it has lasted so long?" My body would have broken down the scar tissue by now, etc. etc.

It's like there's a kind of holographic version of my allegedly damaged body created by my brain with its control panel sending oxygen and other stuff to keep maintaining that sick body image, and the cells, etc. go along with it. But the body itself is just the hardware obeying the software, and a change in the holographic body - say - to one of perfect, radiant health - gives it new instructions.

It is working - gradually - for me.

eureka indeed

xx

After my initial post in this thread on Saturday, I had a very good day yesterday. My shoulder had loosened up considerably and my range of motion (without pain) was much better. Today, however, I'm just about back to where I was prior to my revelation, which is to say stiff, tight and sore. Naturally I'm disappointed, but I guess it takes more than one good day to retrain the autonomic nervous system. The good news is that it proves without a doubt that this frozen shoulder is 99 percent TMS and one percent adhesions. Meanwhile I've been telling my brain exactly what I expect from it, in no uncertain terms. I even praised it for letting me have such a good day yesterday. Maybe it was a Mother's Day present from my subconscious (heh-heh).

This idea of talking to your brain is so bizarre. It's like you're trying to train a wild animal that's living in your head...but hey, I'm all for it if it works.

Yeah - I know - after all the complex psychological things I've done, I'm just taming an animal? And, yeah, if it works...
