For those dealing with painful childhood memories and feel a bit stuck, I highly reccommend reading James Agee's "A Death In The Family." This is an autobiographical novel by the author regarding the death of his father when Agee was only 9 years old. A lot of his childhood recollections about how he was treated by other kids are quite moving and may resonate with many on this board. The book certainly made me think a lot about my own childhood. I also felt an intensification of bodily pain after reading it, so it must have struck a nerve somewhere.

Surely one of the great American books. Agee was a dazzling writer.
