Hello,

I'm from the Netherlands. (Europe) Since may 2003 I’m suffering from RSI, two months after I started a new job.

I have tried many treatments without success and even lost my job. Since two months I’m happy that I have discovered the theory from dr. Sarno and many other information sources. It was a good start for me, in my way to a structural approach.

After a good study from all this material I learnt that it's important to think about the moment that my RSI started. So I decided to completely write down all the sources of anger and anxiety in my job and the causes that I found in my history. After that I have written down solutions to decrease these specific emotions in the future.

Now, my question is: How do I need to deal with this old emotions to “clean” my brain? How can I do that? For example, just rereading several times all the things I wrote down, or anything else?

I’m really curious to your experiences with this subject.

Best regards,

Barry van de Wall

It's really not about "decreasing specific emotions." In fact, it's the opposite. We need to learn to accept our emotions, even the irrational ones that we are afraid or embarrased of, and feel them as much as possible, the moment they occur.

But even that is not necessary for recovery. The important thing is exactly what you have already done: writing down your sources of anger, and fully accepting that your symptoms exist for the purpose of distracting you from those things.

It's time to recondition yourself think about potential sources of rage every time you are aware of the symptoms. Over time, the symptoms will fade because they are not succeeding at distracting you from those things. You should also expand that list from time to time, and try to uncover hidden emotions that are beneath the surface; those that you are unknowingly repressing every day.
