Well between last night and this morning where do I start. If I do have this TMS (which I think I do, just a question if I have torn cartilage and well) then I will have to use everything in me to fight it today (and so far I am failing). Last night I turned on the vaccum (just bought it over this past weekend) and it blew a breaker (I had used the same vaccum twice in same outlet and nothing happened wrong). Well all of a sudden I had no vaccum, no lamp, no entertainment center, no outside light, no computer (yes all on same breaker). WEll my parents got new fuses and changed the fuse to no avail, still does not work. Ok no problem my parents will try to find the electrical problem while I am at work today (mom on summer break from teaching and dad is retired so they have the free time to do so). Well this morning I get up and get ready for work and find out that my refrigerator is apparently on the same circuit (or it coincedentially went at the same time, it's old so there's no telling on that one). So no computer, no lamp, no outside light, no entertainment center, no computer, no refrigerator, and the hot water heater is linking too. My knees hurt worse too, go figure right? LOL Anyway that's me so far today.

Hugs,
Ali Cat

Sorry everything is breaking around you Ali Cat..but remember...YOU ARE HEALING and that is the most important thing! I have you in my prayers for your test results on the 20th...You will be alright! I know what it's like to not be able to straighten my knee...My knee is the second fav place for the tms to settle, after the neck...I couldn't straighten my right knee for over 8 months and I walked w/ a limp after a real injury...BUT...i did NOT have surgery and I am much better now, knee wise..The body DOES HEAL, remember that! I need to remember that too, believe me...And what I have to share that is positive today is that I learned soooo much about myself the past 48 hours..And although I am still in pain, I chose today to not focus on the physical pain, but rather continue looking inward to the emotional pain which is causing the whole thing anyway...Have a great day!
Hugs,
~Karen

Thanks Singer!

When you say you couldn't straighten your knee, please explain everything you can think of about it and how it got better. I need all the knee advice/encouragement available to me. Thanks in advance.

Hugs,
Ali Cat

Sure Ali, no problem...Well my knee has been injured (for real) 3 times...The first was when I was 19 and dancing like a maniac while tripping on acid...(glad I am out of that phase of life, lol!) I was in a cast for badly torn ligaments for 8 months in the middle of summer...Weeks and weeks of PT afterwards and then I was fine...The most recent injuries are more important to your situation because it was when I could NOT straighten my right knee no matter how hard I tried..It happened about 4 years ago when i was protecting my basset hound from a pit bull mix in a dog park...I got in between them and the pit bulls heavy body smashed into my right knee, hyper extending it backwards...I felt a pain but then walked to the car just fine..However, once home it started to swell, etc..So I iced and stayed off of it, but it turned into this LONG TERM THING..Now part or maybe even all of the LONG TERM aspect might have been TMS, I own that...Because injuries and bodies do heal...

I had an MRI and they found "Abnormal flattening of the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus with no frank tear.." What a mouthful! Good news, No frank tear...So I went to a chiropractor (who btw was the one who totally screwed up my neck last year!) and he did help w/ realigning it somehow...My guess is that it would have healed anyway w/o his help...It still took MONTHS b4 it would straighten all the way...And now...after going to the gym a long time, etc...The quads and hamstrings are NOT as strong as the other leg...BUT I just went on a 25 minute walk and it was pretty OKAY! I may have to ice in a bit, but no biggie...i am grateful i could walk...I couldn't power walk for the longest time after the injury...

Okay...next injury TO THE SAME KNEE! Last summer, my friends took me to No. California for my bday...WHile i was crossing the street to go to a gallery and show my work, I tripped on a rock and smashed my bad knee in the cement curb...WHAT A LIVING HELL...it swelled like crazy and turned all sorts of colors...I sprained my ankle (left side) during the fall so I couldn't walk at all on either leg! I was bed ridden for weeks and friends had to help me...BUT this amazing knee of mine healed AGAIN...I didn't have a second MRI either...

Now here is the interesting TMS part...When my neck flared up 6 weeks ago i was bending over to pick up an ice pack that fell off my knee! This was after working out and a longer walk...So then all of a sudden my neck is getting REALLY BAD and still is...but the KNEE is doing better...Sometimes all areas act up at once...but there always seems to be a primary site for the TMS...Sarno says the body will heal..Even if you have a torn meniscus (cartilage) it can heal w/o surgery...I am not a doctor, so see how it all goes...But i am just telling you my experience as you asked me too...I try to AVOID surgery and have managed to on many occasions...Perhaps you will be able to as well..That is my wish/prayer for you..Whew, hope this helped!
Hugs,
~Karen

It helps some Singer, how close could you straighten it all the way? Both my knees seem to be fused at an angle. I was told by one doctor that I would never be able to work again but have been working full time for 3 years now. The knees hurt like mad though, some days worse than others. The one appears swollen but NSAIDs, Biologics and the works do nothing for it, not even a cortisone shot. It's very odd. The current doc is thinking torn cartilage preventing the knee to function properly. I have been called a cripple before because of how my knees appear. I get loads of pity and sympathy which bothers me greatly. I used to be soo independent, my best friend said I was too independent. There could be some relation I suppose. So just curious how bad the knee(s) really were for you. My knees have been in this shape for going on 4 years now.

Ali Cat

Hey Ali Cat,
Sorry for the delay...Okay...well my right knee is the bad one...THe left only hurts on occasion if I favor it too much or if the TMS decides to act out in that way...It was bent enough for around 8 months or more where I walked with a limp...It got better thru PT and lots of prayer...I wasn't thinking of it as a TMS thing at the time..Now w/ the neck TMS being so bad, I am rethinking alot of things..I think TT makes a good point...Maybe you should also see a TMS doc and see what he says..I would LOVE to see Dr. Sarno but I live in Vegas and so I cannot...Keep me posted...
Hugs,
Karen

The doctor I am currently seeing is affliated with TMS, he was trained by Sarno. He thinks I definitely have it but also trying to rule out other things. I had a mri done of both knees this past monday and blood drawn which I find out the results of on the 20th. I have all the signs/symptoms/ and personality traits of tms according to Dr. Hill. He made very valid points. He "prescribed" me the Mindbody Prescription to read as part of me "medication"

Sounds like you found a great doctor...Good for you...Try, if you can, not to think about the test results coming on the 20th...I know that has got to be very hard...but it is just adding more stress to you which can and does make TMS worse..Take it from me...

That's going to be near impossible for me to do Singer (honestly). I have spent 4 years trying to figure this out. Which brings to question, does anyone know of good aversion techinques to aid me in not dwelling/obsessing over this? It's driving me nuts to be so close yet so far from figuring out officially what's going on inside the rebelling knees. Right now I am trying my best not to obsess over the fact that I am down to do reception for 14 hours next week because I HATE reception here, I absolutely abhor it. Gotta try to figure out a way to make it pleasant if not tolerable.

Hugs,
Ali Cat

I hear you, Ali Cat...and when I am really in the middle of intense pain and/or disability what works to calm the obsession for me is PRAYER...I cannot stress this more...I don't want to turn anyone off by sounding like a religious fanatic, because I am not...BUT...God/Jesus is the ULTIMATE GREAT PHYSICIAN...so bring your cares and your worries to Him...That is my best advice...
