I'm a typical over-anxious, over-worried, over-achieving sufferer of severe upper back pains. After seeing a dozen different health professionals, following many treatments, negative X-ray and RMI, I turned to Dr. Sarno's books. I've been following his directives scrupulously for the past 3 weeks, but without much success. I know it might take a bit more time and patience before seeing result, but discouragement is starting to creep in, and I think I might need a little help now. Would anyone know of a psychologist familiar with TMS or a TMS support group in or around San Francisco? And, of course, any advice will be welcome. |

Maybe we should start an informal Bay Area TMS Support Group. That's where I am, and I'd be up for it! |

Has anyone seen the good dr yet in Hayward, we should start a TMS group in San Francisco, there are too many doubters out there, the positive people need to get together and share.

Hi shari,
You are one the right track with Dr. Sarno. As you described, the mainstream medical path has nothing to offer you since their diagnosis is incorrect.
It may take you weeks or months or longer to unlearn the bad habits that come along with TMS. Do not put yourself on some sort of time table for recovery as that will work against you. You are correct in that you must relearn to be patient. By all means seek out a TMS doctor or a psychologist in your area if you need more help.
Lastly, keep re-reading the books and have no fear about the pain. As the good Dr. says, the pain is merely a distraction. The pain is real, but it is your unconscious rage and anger that is causing the pain. The pain will not harm you, it is benign pain that does not mean you have anything really wrong with your body.
If you go thru the posts in the TMS forum you will realize that in some cases it does take longer to recover from TMS. Some people do have immediate relief but others just take a little longer.
No fear.
Take care, -Stryder
