An interesting chain of events has occurred with my pelvic/prostatitis pain recently. Went on vacation for a week - went flyfishing, 4-wheeling, white water rafting. Guess what?? Pain virtually disappeared on my vacation. Got back into town and within a day the pain returned. Have recently been taking Cialis for the dysfunction I have which is related to the prostatitis. About 30 minutes after taking a Viagra pill or a Cialis pill the pain ALSO goes away. I have come to the conclusion that the Cialis/Viagra increases the blood flow in my pelvic area and thus eliminates and/or lessens the pain. I know that this is merely speculation but as Sarno discusses in his book - pain is felt due to decrease in oxygen supply (decrease blood flow). So if taking the Viagra/Cialis increases blood flow to the area one could speculate that pain would dscrease and the nerves, muscles, etc. would receive more oxygen. After the Cialis wears off the about 37-48 hours later I have more pain and can feel the pelvic floor tighten up again.
Does this seem plausible to anyone? Could this confirm a TMS diagnosis for my pelvic pain???

Mark,

I don't know if you recall, but I have TMS in the pelvic area and EVERY vacation I take, it takes one, too. It returns when I return. I've posted numerous times about it on this board, in the new forum and the older one. It always goes away when I go away, but comes back when I do, within a day.

As for the Cialis/Viagra, of course I can't comment, but as for the vacation and the pain disappearing, I'd surely say that's a big confirmation of a TMS diagnosis!

I can only say I had a similar "pain-free" vacation-
then the shoulder-carpel-tendonitus returned quite bad.

I believe prostatitis IS TMS. I had it on and off for many years, but never had a flare-up since reading Dr. Sarno.

That's interesting about viagra/cialis. In my recollection, viagra was accidentaly discovered while doing lab work on heart disease. The scientist found this interesting side effect. I think you've already discovered that the pelvic/prostrate pain is TMS since it goes away on vacation and returns upon re-entering the stress/rage/anger world.

I've heard women are using viagra also for sexual dysfunction. I might try it myself if it would help my hip joint to release tension. In the end, we still have to deal with the emotional aspect of TMS, otherwise, the pain will likely pop-up in another area or an equivalent. It would be nice if it could relieve chronic TMS pain that has developed into a bad habit, like my hip TMS, without morphing into a new symptom.
