Does anyone on this board have fibro, the reason I ask is that as I read some of the posts, [ I am new to the board] I realise that most of you have locolised pain, I often have allover body pain coupled with exhaustion ,I call these episodes my fibro flares, they usually occur when I have done too much other times I suffer from my every day upper back and neck pain only, does anyone suffer from extreme tiredness and does anyone know of a tms doctor in southern Ontario, has anyone recovered from fibro on this board, thank you MICHE

Miche,
I can't help you to find a doctor in Ontario but there are TMS doctors listed on various websites. If you do a thorough search, you will find some.

Regarding fibro, I will tell you when I saw Sarno, he looked me in the eye and said "Fibromyalgia does not exist." And I believe him. Just keep at it. Do the program, read the books, do the journaling. It really works. I gather from reading other posts and from his books, that fibro is a more complicated form of TMS so it could take longer. Like you, I've got more global symptoms and my primary MD hinted at fibro about 9 mos ago. It was that moment that I decided to refuse to accept it. I'm not 100% there yet but I am much better and I look forward to continued improvement.

There are others on this forum who gave me encouragement when I asked the same questions. Go back and search the archives. You'll feel better.
Good luck. Don't give up!

Hi miche,

I have all over pain -- butt/legs, neck/shoulders and arms, jaw, etc. I don't have sleep problems, but I have IBS. I was never diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but I had one doctor and a physical therapist mention the possibility.

There is a book on treating fibro using a mindbody approach -- I think it's called Freedom from Fibromyalgia.

Miche,

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I had the all-over pain, but not exhaustion or tiredness. I recovered using "Healing Back Pain" and "The Mindbody Prescription". I have been recovered for nearly seven years. "Freedom from Fibromyalgia" was not published at the time I recovered, but it looks like something that would have been helpful.

I do not know of a TMS practitioner in Canada, but reverse therapy has some strong similarities to Dr. Sarno's treatment: http://www.reverse-therapy.com/. There is a reverse therapist in Ancaster, Ontario.

Kajsa is the only person I know of who have tried this treatment on this discussion board. She started the program, but has not completed it yet, because it's not available in her country. She has to fly to a different to get the treatment, but seems to think it was worth it.

There are indeed no TMS doctors in Canada. In fact, there are probably no more than 30 in the world as they way medicine is practiced these day psychosomatic explanations for the pain is not well recieved.

You are like me, you have to accept the diagnosis on your own. I know that is difficult as getting a diagnosis from a doctor is much more psychologically powerful, but what is one to do.

Read over and over again what Dr. Sarno written about the diagnosis of fibromyalgia which he considers to be an extreme manifestation of TMS. Read especially the psychology and treatment sections in his books. I also recomment Nancy Selridge's - herself a physician- book as she had this condition but is full recovered using Dr. Sarno's methods.
