I was on the Dr. Phil website today, and saw that he had a message board entitled, "Living with Chronic Pain." I read back through 30 pages of messages from people with all manner of chronic pain, many of which could be TMS such as fibromyalgia, back pain, degenerative disc disease, RSI, and many others, and evidently none of them had ever heard of Dr. Sarno. So I wrote a long post about him, urging that they read one of his books for possible relief from their pain.
If anyone else wants to post about Dr. Sarno and TMS, and their success with chronic pain, I think it could be a big help to these people. Many were pleading for help and hope. And it could be a good way to get more knowledge about Dr. Sarno and TMS out there.
Here's the link: http://drphil.com/messageboard/topic/262/

Oh man, Ralph I read some of the postings and it breaks my heart. I can't help but feel that some of these people have experienced so much pain due directly to over-misdiagnosis and treatment. Excellent post by you. I hope it helps. I registered and will post later. Good job

Hi Ralph.
I did it...hopefully they don't delete it like Healthboards.com used to.
I rarely troll those kind of forums,as I have found it depressing and overwhelming.None the less,I feel like I owe it to Sarno to 'testify' every now and again...the Guy gave me my life back for the cost of 3 Baseballs...Not a bad bargain!
I heard Sarno charges about a grand for private treatment...He HAS to!!
His work works so well, that most of us never have to meet him.If I ever make it to NY ,I have to take him out for a steak or something!!

I checked out the Dr Phil site. Wow, what a depressing place! I had to get away for fear I would start experiencing some of the symptoms. What a very different (positive, hopeful) tone the TMS board has. I feel very sorry for the people on that and other similar boards, though I wouldn't think of judging them, their conditions, as TMS-related. One might suppose that, but who's to know for sure? |

Thanks for posting, Baseball65, and Jena. Great letters, and hopefully a few more readers of Dr. Sarno and a few more recoveries from chronic pain soon.
I hear your frustration, Baseball65, that people weren't responding to your initial and very persuasive post on p. 65, just as they didn't reply to mine on p. 62. But hopefully some went to Amazon.com, read some of the reviews and decided to order the books, and take the first steps to really healing their pain.
Anyway, thanks again, Ralph

Another really depressing place to read about chronic pain is the Yahoo 'Back Chat' area in their 'Health & Wellness' section. I swear, there are people in there talking about how excited they are to get their backs fused and about getting artifical discs and being on disability, etc.. There's some serious, secondary gain-ers in that place. I got real angry one time while I was in there reading all their awful IMs about how bad their backs are and asked something to the effect of, "how can you possibly have such a bad back when clearly the extent of your physical activity is using the clicker and opening another bag of Doritos?"

Baseball--I noticed a couple of responses to your post on the Dr Phil board. |

All these types of boards are immensely depressing. I used to read the postings on the UK and US repetitive strain injury email lists but it just made me despair for myself, every day people are posting lists of the things they can't do this week because of the pain, the morphine derivative painkillers their good doctors have prescribed for them which they are now hooked on, the operation they are scheduled for which will change their life...
Even when I was convinced my condition was physical I just felt that the little boxes these people had made for themselves to live in were nothing like how I thought of my situation. And the great long accounts of 'and then I had this procedure, and then I took this drug, and then I went to this class' and on and on, lives full of ridiculous medical jargon and defining themselves with diagnoses. It's unbearable.
There is no comparison between the tone of those boards and this one, closed versus open, it's one of the things that keeps me working at this TMS.
