Don't know if anyone watches this show, but last night's episode had a "TMS-friendly" plotline.
Dr. House suffers chronic leg pain due to muscle death, and is a textbook TMS personality type (repressor). After pushing the love of his life out of his life for the second time, his leg pain increases substantially. His friend tries to convince him it has a psychological origin but he doesn't buy it. He gets a morphine injection from another doctor, which works, but later he learns that it wasn't morphine after all, only a placebo. |

I watched it last night, and had the same thought. I love how the shot that he thought had helped him turned out to be saline. Also, I noticed the comment from his boss that House's pain returned as soon as he figured out the medical problem with his patient - in other words, when he was no longer distracted with work. Oooh, the power of the mind! |

We are a series behind the US with this series, so it will be a while till I see this episode - so I'll look forward to it.
I just love that show. Did you know it is supposed to be based on Conan Doyle's character Sherlock Holmes? What makes it so good for me is that he just gets nastier and nastier all the time. Usually programme makers start finding good qualities in their 'bad' characters as the show progresses, which usually adversely affects the quality of the show. They've resisted that temptation with this.
Hugh Laurie is amazing as House. I've never seen him in a serious role before. He's a brilliant English comedy actor. Remember him in Blackadder? |

House is such a great show , but I had always been a little disappointed that a mind body connection was never shown in any type of curative way. Last nights episode was great , for it pressed House himself to acknowledge it. I saw Hugh on the Ellen show , and it was so wierd to hear his British accent ( or was it Aussie ? ), and really remarkable that he sounds so American on House. I did see him a few months ago on Blackadder , and enjoyed it a lot. |

There was another nod to mind/body medicine on House last night. At one point, Dr. Wilson said to House that "some of us bottle up our feelings and it comes out as pain."
It's very cool to see such a radical idea presented in a matter-of-fact way. And, it's such a great show! |
