I'm new to TMS. I have read the book by Dr. Sarno and have been trying the approach for about a week. I'm noticing that as I try to find an emotional reason for the pains I keep listing all the bad feelings I might be having or difficult situations that I have been through. Example: "My ankle is tingly and stiff; am I disappointed in my marriage, do I resent the work of mothering, am I trying to please someone too much, is there a childhood issue I haven't resolved, am I just fearing pain or disability? ect." Though I don't feel more negativity than usual, I'd rather think about other things, positive things. There are little pains all day, so I need to find a way to let the repressed emotion(s) out easily, let them go, or ignore the pain. I guess I will get better at balancing the emotional spectrum once there is improvement. Any fresh perspectives on this?

Hi! You must be having a lot of stress with your little one. It may also be stress from when you were a child that gives you your pain, now. I discovered that for myself in therapy. If you are also a worrier, like me, you may want to read this book, too: The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle. Since reading it, I have reduced my worry, and anxiety greatly. It is not a tms book, but I have found it very helpful, and I believe I am generating less of the tension and stress that is the root of tms. I am like a broken record talking about this book, but it has had a profound effect on my life, for the better.
