Thank you to PeterMckay for recommending the book "The Power of Now". Next to Sarno's books it has helped me tremendously with my TMS symptoms as it has showed me that "now is all we have", and that our thoughts and mind are really not who we truly are. By experiecing the "present moment" as much as possible without judging it, I have begun to abolish my normal reactions to stressful situations. What a great book. I am only 1/3 of the way through but have had major awakenings even so. Thanks again for mentioning it. I really believe it should be a required reading for anybody with TMS, or maybe for all human beings... Elise

I listened to the book on tape. It didn't help my tms that much, but he has a knack for explaining topics that are difficult to express in words. The only thing I don't understand is how it is that the "light of consciousness" gets rid of the pain body. I tried to become aware of my pain, but it didn't reduce it much. then I go back and do the Sarno reminders and it goes away. |

johnnyg,
The Power of Now is not a TMS treatment book. It is a book which contributes to general wellness- especially in dealing with turmoil in the mind and soul. In fact, there are many books out there that are wonderful reads.....
I have read Sarno's books at least 10 times each, but reading them alone does not take away everyone's pain, and most certainly not mine. If it does for you then you are one of the few fortunate ones and I am truly glad for you. |

Thanks, I know it's not a tms treatment, but he does give you techniques that are supposed to eliminate physical pain. It just didn't work for me, but I like his ideas otherwise. |

I just started reading it as well. I like it very much so far. I have always had a problem with too many thoughts in my head, all at the same time. Thanks for the reccomendation. |

I think that overly thinking about the past (guilt) and projecting into the future (worry) causes us all a lot of internal stress, worry and anger. At least that is the case for me..... |

I am reading Eckhart Tolle's new book, "A New Earth". It is also an excellent read. I have also listened to his cd - Living a Life of Inner Peace. I really enjoyed it, as well. I don't usually buy books until they are in paperback, but this was well worth the cost. |

I just had to mention AGAIN how this book, Power of Now, has helped me. I have finished reading it and actually am reading through all my underlined parts. I also just bought the little companion book, Practicing The Power of Now. It is more condenced and you can use it a quick reference of all the important points he makes in the main book, The Power of Now. Anyway I have been reading it every night now before I go to sleep. I am so much more aware now of my thoughts and how my mind races and worries about the future and dwells on the past causing tenseness to well up in different parts of by body, mostly in my neck area and shoulders. I just do his little exercises and become aware of the "present" and I can feel the tension lessen, thus my TMS symptoms lessoning. I even do this while I am cooking, doing the dishses, walking outside, even while I am working. It just helps so much. Things just do not seem to bother me as much. It has helped me in my marriage, my work, dealing with my kids moving out and being on their own (the empty feelings). These books by Tolle I feel are necessary companions from some people, to Sarnos books. They go hand and hand, IMO. Anyway, I also bought his CDs called Gateway to the Now. I will start listening to those today after work... I jsut want to thank Peter again for mentioning Tolle and The Power of Now!! Thanks again and again!. This forum has been so helpful to me in may ways... Thanks to all. I still think you should add The Power of Now to the suggested book list. Elise
