Since finding this forum a couple of nights ago, I have purused the various postings of people made over the last few days and have posted, myself, once. (Got some very caring-sounding feedback which I appreciate). One thing that I am hoping (quite strongly, actually) is to hear something really conclusive about success with the Sarno plan. Just as a little much needed re-enforcement. I have all the books and the video, can almost recite them. I read and re-read. I would just love some real folks saying "yes! It works! I have no pain, just stick with it! You go, girl!" I'll keep doing the homework, just tell me I'll get the diploma in the end.

There are 91 pages in this Forum. Go back and read. You will find a significant number of people who have had success. Hang in there. Sarno's approach does work, if you work it. |

Hi MaryB,
Yes, It really works! I had been misdiagnosed for 20 years, and on the first read through Healing Back Pain it was almost surreal as the words Dr. Sarno put on the page were like he was in my mind. It all FINALLY made sense after so many years of the mainstream docs not making any sense at all.
You are correct in that in amoungst all the questions and posts of people who are working on their recovery, it may be hard to find the success stories easily. Keep looking :-) Also, this forum is a bit different from other self-help forums in that a lot of the people who "win" the battle DO continue to monitor what is going on here (they may not post every day).
Here is a sample of a member who was already pain free when he discovered this forum...

Welcome, MaryB!
Yes, Dr. Sarno's treatment does work. I had 7 2/3 years of fibromyalgia misery, but was able to recover in 5-6 weeks. Before fibromyalgia, I loved to bike. Not long after coming down with fibromyalgia, I gave up biking and thought I would never bike again. I now ride about 1200 miles a year, much more than I did before I had severe pain.
It's now rare for me to feel pain, but I do occasionally get fibromyagia-type pain. It usually very short-lived.

Hi Mary,
Yes – I’ve now stopped using my voice recognition (except yesterday when I was quoting from TMP and cheated – I didn’t have time to type it out, it would have taken forever!) and am able to type/mouse all day without pain.
Here's a link to my story
I can understand how you’re feeling – it’s very hard in the beginning when improvements seem small. Getting encouragement from others who had been successful was the key factor in me going back to / continuing with the TMS approach.
Keep with it. Perhaps if you don’t get any improvement you could try psychotherapy?

It may help to focus on the part of the book about how clever our unconscious brain is and how hard it is to give up our old way of thinking after how many years? This system will work as well as you and your very clever brain allow it to work.I have had great success with my back pain (several herniated discs)but we don't always realize all the unconscious things that bother us,with our conscious mind, sometimes you just have to believe it is a psysologically induced process and go ahead without fear of mechanical problems (as you have demonstrated) and build on that. You will get well soon and do what ever you like, without pain or fear. Paul. |

Wow Jim, that's a great story! I also suffered from the "fibromyalgia" pain for 4.5 years so my heart goes out to you for dealing with it for 7+ years. My pain also resolved within a few weeks of starting Sarno's protocol. I am having foot pain now that's actually being more stubborn to go away but I'm not putting in the effort to get rid of it that I had with the "fms".

Thank you everybody! I've been going at Sarno's program for over 1 year now without what I would call any real difference in pain level, although definate migration of the pain to different areas of right leg/foot.(Symptom of tms). I have to admit that although I was very convinced right away as I was reading Healing Back Pain that it was applicable to me I did not go the distance on the daily reminders, imaging the rage etc... Then read Mindbody connection and it is so much more complex/disturbing to apply(actually kind of makes me feel a little less well-adjusted always trying to think of negative feelings and memories when pain is most noticeable) that I slacked off for awhile. I'm back on the horse now for the past two months or so, but still in pain. Just started the nightly journalling a few days ago, so....wish me God's speed! |

Hi MaryB,
One thing that will increase your stress and slow your progress is putting yourself on some sort of schedule/timetable for recovery. This will only work against you. Yes, in some cases Dr. Sarno's patients have recovered in days or weeks, but that is not always the case.
So clear your mind of dates, like, "I need to be all better by X-Mas". Your recovery will have to set its own pace. Just keep doing the work, and post your findings here so we can help.
Take care, -Stryder |

MaryB,
I hope you recover quickly! I don't think that I would have recovered without journaling. I hope it helps you as much as it did me!

Windy,
Thanks for the compliment! Sorry to hear about your foot pain. I was wondering why you put fibromyalgia in quotes. Were you diagnosed with it?
