I have just been listening to Dr Sarno's CD and read his book Healing Back pain. Just found this forum and so relieved to find others with the same issues! I have been diagnosed with so many conditions which he mentions, the earliest from when I was only 7 years old so I am an early starter. I've been told I have had
Plantar fascitis
Osteo Chondritis
Muscle spasm
Scoliosis
Facet joint syndrome
Inflammation of sacroiliac joints
and now coccydynia as well as hip/leg pain (no-one had put a name to this one yet - makes a change!)
My coccyx pain started 2 years ago in pregnancy which I know is common. But instead of getting better after birth it got worse and worse. I had my appendix out a year before having my baby and then had a bowel obstruction cleared (laporotomy) 1 week after birth - no TMS there! Now I've lost my job and can't walk very far.

I've had x-ray and MRI all clear. My osteopath thinks the build-up of scar tissue may be a problem and I am still wondering in the back of my mind if it isn't TMS but just a result of the unfortunate events I have suffered. However, I am a classic TMS person and all my previous ailments have gone away on their own. I really want to believe it is TMS but maybe I am sceptical.

It's great to hear of people who have been cured! Look forward to more stories!

Hi, Julia,

You and I have the most recent diagnosis (coccydynia) in common, as well as a few others. I'd list all my dx, but it would take all day and too much space. :)

I, too, am a little skeptical that all my problems are TMS. On the other hand, I'm a little skeptical that all my pain is from the huge variety of different ailments I've been diagnosed with over the years. So I'm going to read the books and go from there.

It IS good to hear the stories of all the people who've been cured. Let's hope we BOTH find solutions here.

The explanation was that the scar tissue had fused the lower back and that, as a result, the vertebrae above that area were called upon to do work that they were not designed to do. This, they said, produced the pain. I was faced basically with a "life sentence", because the scar tissue will not go away. Those explanations for my pain were, in my opinion, so much crap. Sarno gave me full time parole.

I believe that the "practitioners" who offer the "buildup of scar tissue" as an explanation for pain have no clue what is wrong but they connot be refuted, because we know that we do have scar tissue.

This will keep us thinking "physical" when, in reality, the pain has a psychological cause.

julia-

i can trace tms and equivalents back to at least 8 yrs old, and i'm almost 45!

it was most enlightening to look at the string of stuff (it's always something, my wife says) throughout my life: allergies, depression, digestive probs, chiropractic addiction, respiratory infections, candidaiasis, carpal-tunnel, tendonitis, epstein-barr virus, asthma, and probably some i dont remember

most of them went away and were replaced by the next one without any real 'reason' for the healing (classic tms). in fact, all my life doctors have told me how my symptoms never fit the mold and how odd they are (i was waiting to find out my heart was on the right side of my chest)

dr sarno called me a "classic, textbook tms case"- and of course, this is the reason the other stuff confounded the dics: IT WAS ALWAYS TMS!

Coccyx Pain Sufferers!
It is so possible to experience relief from this excruciating pain...hang in there....do not give in to the thoughts that this has to be structural...that there has to be something very wrong for it to hurt so bad....talk to your brain (sub-conscience).....I used to do it in the car, out load, while I was driving....so no one would hear me...I would tell my brain that it was so unneccessary to do this as I could and would deal with what ever awful thing it was trying to protect me from....I also would consciously relax that area and visualize the blood flowing more freely to that place....I would tell my brain (out load) that it could relax the blood vessels and let this happen.....gradually the pain subsided til I was pain free!
Give this a try!
