I was just wondering being new here and all- shouldn't it be contraindicated to come here since we are not suppose to be feeding our pain and concentrating on it. Its a funny thing, when my pain first started I searched the net hi and low and found the health boards message forum. I have just recently decided to take it out of my favorites and for the same reason I don't visit the ms message forum either or attend support groups. Any view-points on this are welcome.
I think as long as we're focusing on strategies to address the root of our TMS problems (i.e. emotional issues) it's OK. I'm new here myself, and try to stay away from topics where there is a lot of focus on the physical symptoms / pain / how bad a day I'm having. For some discussions you really can't get away from it, though : like asking if others have used Sarno's principles to get rid of a particular symptom.
I can definitely sympathise with folks having bad symptoms but don't want to read about it myself as I think it is counterproductive to focus on the pain so much.
The biggest stumbling block in recovering from tms is fear. Fear of what's wrong with me,fear of hurting myself etc. Being able to discuss one's fears and learn of others methods in dealing with tms is terribly helpful. One doesn't have to dwell on the pain but instead, deal with the phycological causes of the pain. None of us that have dealt with tms successfully dwell on any particular area of pain. We know it doesn't matter where the pain is but what has caused it. Newbies are always listing info about herniations of L this and L that but us oldies know it's irrelevant. Good luck here and I hope you become symptom free.
