Got this letter from a TMS doc I am communicating with. I will not reveal his name though as I don't have permission to do so.

------------------------

Remember that research has shown that people who only
spend time getting fully into their emotions actually
can get worse symptoms.
What I want you to do is
write about some of the issues bothering you (allowing
yourself to express yourself fully) and then write
about how you are understanding those issues better,
how you are dealing with them better, how you plan on
not letting them bother you and not letting them cause
symptoms. That’s how you start with the emotional
issues and begin to transcend them.

Secondly, accept that you have the inner parent (we
all do!!), but tell it to be quiet and that you’re too
busy living your life and getting better right now to
pay too much attention to it.

I think you need to keep on moving and living and
loving life.
That’s your cure. Don’t spend too much
time (and certainly not a majority of your time in
“therapy”.

You are starting to make some progress. That’s great.
Everyone I’ve treated has a period of backsliding.
The mind tends to get back at us, but you can expect
that and just keep going. Plan more activities
gradually and keep doing them. You’ve got to fight
through this and you will!!

Listen to the meditation CD, do the writing and keep talking to
your brain. But most importantly, start new things
that bring you joy, even if they are very small
things. Tell me what positive things you are able to
do.

Best of luck,

Peter, sounds like good advice. Enjoy life.

What meditation CD are you using and do you find it effective?

PeterMcKay,
thank you so much for sharing that letter with us. I had recently reached a "standstill" in my own work with a TMS therapist. The therapist kept insisting that I need to continue to wallow in the negative feelings about myself. I have intuitively felt that this has become counter therapeutic for me (believe me, I've lived with these negative thoughts and feelings for most of my life). Reading the letter that you received has given me some confirmation on this. It seems that what your physician points out is that while it is important to focus on the feelings and to express your feelings about your circumstances, it is also important to empower yourself through understanding and action. I don't want to deny my emotional issues, but I do want to transcend them so that they don't stay stuck in my body.
Thanks again
