I have had TMS for about 2 years now in the lower left quadrant of my back and in the left hip and front part of my upper thigh. After much reading and work the pain is now quite manageable but about 8 months ago I noticed something new was appearing. I began to feel a numbness in the pads just behind my toes on both feet. This numbness did not involve any tingling or burning sensations, just a feeling of numbness. Then it spread to encompass both feet and lower legs. I have good response to any stimulation of the feet so they are not numb to touch. I checked in with my M.D. who checked out my feet and legs, i.e. checked the pulse in the feet, examined feet closely, checked knee responses with the little mallet dingy and found that the circulation was good. He ruled out diabetic neuropathy and a few other things but did not know what was causing the numbness. They also ran some scans of my lower back and hips and found arthritis in the lower spine. They said that the hips had mild arthritis but nothing to be concerned about. I checked the Search engine on this site for "Numbness" and read some of the references but learned little. Have any of you encountered this kind of a numbness thing? Mobius |

I get numbness in my wrists when TMS is acting up. Hand surgeon would like to call it tendinitis but it's not, it's full blown TMS because it will come and go and comes when I am aggravated, etc. |

big time- in both arms and hands. pins-and-needles stuff. neurologist says i need surgery on a herniated disc. left his office after several epidurals and medications with a list of surgeons. saw dr sarno instead a month ago. sarno says definitely TMS. as my serious pain is easing, i expect the numbness to also (numbness has been a longer symptom). there is no pattern to when or where or how numb i get. in fact, as soon as i mentioned numbness to dr. sarno, THAT was the symptom in his mind that confirmed his TMS diagnosis. he says all numbness is TMS (which if you think about your foot 'falling asleep', it's due to lack of blood flow, hence lack of oxygen, the 'cause' of TMS). lee |

not only was my foot numb, it was also paralized years ago, For example, I couldn't tap with it...like the movement of tappng out a tune.
It just flopped when I walked, and my siatic nerve was killing me, and my foot was numb.
The neurologist that dr sarno sent me to said we'd better do something quick or it would be too late. The MRI said that my discs were buldging out all over!
Dr sarno sent me to him because it was such a new and dramatic symptom he wanted to make sure it wasn't a tumor or something like that. But after he spoke to the neuro, Dr Sarno said ...no, it was tms...Actually, it was a family wedding!
I went with Sarno, and within days it was fine, and I started running (neurologist said that the least I could do was get physical therapy...shook his head horrified when I declined.)
The pain and nubness went away right away...I never even noticed when I stopped flopping around.

Mobius my left thumb has been numb for approx 15 years. The doctors say it is nerve damage from a herniated disk in my neck. I had the disk removed two and a half years ago and the vertebra fused and my thumb is still numb. This is before I kew about Dr. Sarno. After using Dr. Sarno's methods I have reduced almost all of the pain I was having in my neck and lower back. The two TMS equivalents that are still with me are the numbness in my left thumb and my tinnitus. The tinnitus come and goes. After reading the post about tinnitus I have noticed more than normal. They are ringing right now just writing about it. |

I have foot numbness and calf weakness also siatica pain. Dr. Sarno hates that term... The surgeon says I needed surgery for a L5S1 herniation. Went to see Dr. Sarno and he said it was from, Well you guessed it TMS. It was getting better for a while until all the medical bills came in and than the pain and numbness came right back from the anxiety of not having the money and starting school. |
