I found this link to a transcript of the Aug 12 1999 CNN show with Sarno, Howard Stern and Robert Shapiro, et. al., for anyone interested. Yes, I know it's on a yoga site! Don't beat me up about it. ;)

I think Sarno should have spoken up a lot more. He seemed not to want to go into much detail. I understand why, but if it weren't for Howard's ramblings, a person not in the know wouldn't get much about the theory. Or maybe Howard should have shut up. I don't know. |

Personally I think it's always a good idea for Howard to shut up.
In my opinion it detracts from Sarno's credibility to appear with Stern.
Oh well.

I am so glad you posted this link. It was great to read. I like the sound of Sarno. This link popped up when I really needed to hear him again. The beauty of all this is that he has very little to say because it's all so simple.
Thanks again, Polly |

I just wanted to apologize for writing what I did... I dislike Stern immensly, but wasn't thinking clearly about the context of the interview, where Stern makes a compelling case for Sarno's technique. My apologies. Howard's human (somehow), too!

Actually, even though I am not a Stern fan, his endorsement of Sarno "held a lot of water" for me. Say what you will about Stern being sexist, racist, or whatever, he is not gullible nor "new agey." I knew that if Sarno passed Stern's bull**** detector, there was something to his work.
This feeling was further amplified when I checked out Sarno's website and saw that he was not hawking a whole line of Sarno products, only a book and a set of video tapes. Plus, he was basically saying, check the book out at the library, don't worry about getting the tapes because you probably don't need them. This was pretty refreshing to me after spending thousands of dollars on supposed cures. |

Howard Stern is actually the person that Dr. Sarno refers to in Healing Back Pain who suggested that OCD is a TMS equivalent. |
