I saw a segment this morning on the news that a study was done that finds that peptic ulcer is NOT caused by stress, as doctors have thought all along. These doctors say they have discovered that people with peptic ulcers have "H Pylori" bacteria in their stomach lining, and that 90% of people with peptic ulcers have this bacteria. In remembering Sarno's and Sopher's explanation on peptic ulcers, they say that ulcers ARE from stress and that the old "bacteria in the stomach" culprit is all nonsense. So I just thought I'd bring up that once again, the traditionalists are searching for a way to PROVE that it's bacteria caused and are recommending anti-biotics to cure it. Hmm... wonder how many of those people who go on the course of anti-biotics end up right back where they started, with pain in the gut. Interesting. I find it curious how docs will always look for ways to undermine how much stress can affect us. |

They neglect to point out that many people with "H Plyori" bacteria do not have peptic ulcers.
Maybe "H Plyori" is a benign bacteria (like the thousands of others that live in our stomach in perfect harmony) and has nothing to do with ulcers. Or maybe "H Plyori" is the cause of the ulcer in some people, but because their immune systems have been targeted by TMS.
Today's medicine is constantly looking for ways to explain disease that can be proven in a lab. Ulcers is one of those rare cases where medicine actually made the right conclusion years ago. Since then the incidence of ulcers has gone down, and has been replaced with more "in vogue" conditions like herniated discs and plantar fasciitis. |

Really? I'd like for these jokers to experience the burning stomach pain I get when I get really angry with someone. Last week, I got into a huge argument with my husband over some pretty deep seated issues. As I was raising my voice and shouting at him, my stomach began to feel as if battery acid were being poured into it. Not caused by stress, huh? And they say Sarno is the quack.

Sarno doesn't exactly say that the bacteria is non-sense. He doesn't deny that bacteria is or may be a factor, but rather that it would be a product caused by stress. In the appendix to MBP he adheres to the theory that the chemicals in the body are "at the service of the Psyche." The same theory is applied to chemical imbalances in the brain for which psychiatrists dispense so many medications. I just thought I'd add this as a point of interest. Of course, those with TMS who get better after medicating their ulcer would inevitable get some other manifestation like back ache. So they'll be back in that same doctors office complaining and adding more money to his pot so the doctor can build another addition to his house, or buy another summer house! :) |

I was tested about 5 years ago and I had h-pylori. My doctor told me that I had the first stage of an ulcer, whatever that means. He told me if I had any more blood tests, they would always come back positive for h-pylori. He said next time if I had "problems" I would need to get scoped. I haven't been back since then for my stomach. My aunt is a nurse and she told me that almost always, people test negative for h-pylori. Maybe the bacteria had something to do with the ulcer, but I thnik think that TMS causes the bacteria, which in turn may cause the ulcer. It's just like back pain, TMS causes the reduction in oxygen, which in turn can cause the pain. |
