Hi all,

Sarno discusses anxiety and depression, briefly, in The Mindbody Prescription, but I'm looking for more specific information about bipolar disorder as a TMS equivalent. I have a friend who has had amazing success with his RSDS (very nasty stuff) and several other TMS conditions, and it has just dawned on him that bipolar disorder, his worst symptom, is also TMS.

Can anyone give any personal experience on this or point me to some detailed information?

Many thanks,
Cam

I'd like to see something on this as well. In MBP, Sarno touches on OCD, anxiety and depression - why not bipolar?

I looked at the Wikipedia entry for Bipolar disorder and saw that there are "no definite known causes" with a half dozen or so theories about different physical/chemical things that could be going on... I don't know if it is an equivilent, but when you see something like that it's definitely suggestive, isn't it?

I did experince some psychological symptoms during the course of my TMS treatment (though nothing on the scale of Bipolar Disorder) -I chalked it up as another attempt by my mind at a defense mechanism and the symptoms went away very rapidly.

In no way is bipolar TMS,
Nor is the average depression one goes through compared to one who is a Manic depressant (BI-polar)
Study the sickness, the effects that it has and the history of the illness.

Growing up in an environment with a father who has been through many episodes from deep deep deep depression to manic episodes which have lasted weeks untill his body finally crashed I will tell you lithium is not a placebo my friend.

Bi polar
“No Known causes or culprit”……… yea just like autism.
Maybe you might find a connection; all have much in common.

Once you also study the history of the following
Depression, OCD behaviors schizophrenia, ADD, ADHD, PDD NOS, Asperegers, Autism, Alzheimer’s.
You will find the answers you seek.

Good luck
Kenny V

I would certainly agree with Kenny V. Treating bipolar disorder as TMS could lead to devestating consequences. I've had friends who've suddenly decided that their bipolar disorder can be cured by eating vitamins / going to church / polarity therapy / fill in the blank and gone off their meds and the results have been terrible. Staying on meds always seems to be such a challenge for this population anyway. Please tell your friend to proceed with extreme caution.
