I've had sciatic pain and some lower back pain that started in late October.

I'm very physically active, and it hasn't been debilitating, but it has stopped from doing a lot of things that I normally do, such as extreme sports, or team sports. I have been able to substitute other physical activities to stay in shape, abut want to be able to everything that I enjoy (perfectionist? ...).

I was almost better after 5 months, then had a relapse when loading a very heavy item on a car roof.

My physical therapist is starting to get befuddled; at this point, he said it could be a mechanical issue, herniated disk or stenosis at this point. My primary doc just examined me, and strength and reflexes are fine, but said that after 7 months, we should get an MRI, which I'll get soon.

The next step would probably be a physiatrist visit. Dr. Martinez is a physiatrist, and was thinking about starting with him. Does anyone have any experience with him regarding not only his mindset and manner? Also, Does he meet with you once or twice, or does he have seminars after an initial evaluation in the classic Sarno methodology?

Don't know about Dr. Eugenio Martinez, but do a "search" here and at the other TMS site and you may find folks who've seen him. If you are fortunate enough to have a TMS physician near enough to you, I'd make him my primary doctor for an objective MINDBODY/BODYMIND DX.

In the meantime, the first thing you should do is re-read your SARNO, because everything you have written is antithetical to TMS theory.

It sounds like your docs can't find anything to hang your pain structurally to hang your pain on, which clears the path to following the TMS protocol. Regarding your perceived trigger for your current pain, as the Good Doctor said : "If it's too heavy to lift--you couldn't lift it."

g'luck, keep us informed, you need a TMS "booster", reread a TMS book.
