I've got a great opportunity to test out my TMS wings tomorrow..As a runner, I've been bothered by a ball of the foot thing called metatarsalgia..one of the knuckle type bones below the toe inflamed and painful...The injury occured in the first place as a result of poorly fitted orthotics..or at least, that's the connection I drew...It's been eight or nine months and it sitll bothers me off and on...

Anyway, I just got this scooter type bike that involves a lot of kicking with the ball of the foot...Naturally, after a couple of days of this, it's painful again...

I'm trying very hard to think TMS...for one thing, I think it should be healed by now...for another, it kind of comes and goes during a run...shouldn't it just come and then stay if it were a legit structural problem? I'll go for a run...it will hurt for a mile or two, then ease up, then hurt again, then ease up again etc...

So...tomorrow I'm going to fly in the face of what would typically be suggested, which would be to rest it after all that kickbiking (the name of the scooter thing) and go for a long run, thinking TMS all the way..

Any words of encouragement and "good lucks" would be tremendously appreciated..

Many thanks,
A.

Thanks guys!!

I appreciate the kind words very much, but don't want to take too much credit for bravery..For one thing, I've had great success with back problems with the Sarno approach in the past, so I've got that to draw on..

And for another, I think my charging full steam ahead from the run to the bike was almost "counter-phobic" in a way....The run was great, but it didn't feel like a strong enough demonstration...I really needed to test it by getting onto the same piece of equipment that brought on the injury, or at least brought on the relapse..

Excellent! Sopher would say you need to celebrate the success days you have, and since it's Friday, what a perfect combination! Celebrate somehow and really pat yourself on the back for a job well done! It took great bravery to try that run and bike, all in one day. I hope you now realize that you have answered your own questions, as I did a few weeks ago when I ran. I did not have success first time running. It took about 4 tries and then I licked it!
Good going!

P.S.
The reason why it's important to celebrate is that it conditions your brain into positive behaviors, like B.F. Skinner would have done with rats.

Thanks Mary and Laura..

I wanted to check if there were any responses before I went on my run, and there you two people were!! Thanks so much. JUst what I needed..

It's funny how very far a bit of community support can take you...even anonymous support can be very powerful...

I'll let you two guys know how I did when I get back, later today...

Many thanks and much appreciated,
A.

The only thing I'd caution you on is take it slow but do try! And good luck, you can do it!

As Nike says, Just Do It! Show that TMS gremlin that you're in charge, not it. Best of luck, Art!
