Can dealing with pain day in and day out cause fatigue? I know ultimately it boils down to treating the cause, i.e, TMS, but I cannot help but wonder. Hope everyone is swell.

I was recently tested (blood tests)for extreme fatigue. Doctor thought maybe it was anemia or thyroid....turned out to be neither. I do think that being in pain 24/7 on top of all the other daily issues we deal with can and does create an extreme fatigue. Since loosing my Mom and my surgery last year, I am even a worse sleeper than I was before. Some people tell me that our bodies adjust to whatever sleep we can get....but I am not so sure about that. I never needed sleep as a kid or teenager or even into my 20's, but now, in my early 40's,with 2 teenagers of my own, I require a lot of rest/sleep.....but just do not get what I need. I walk around "tired"
much of the time.

Seth,

When I had my major recurrence back in January, I lost a lot of sleep during some nights and there were others that I got no sleep. When you are in constant pain, you can get mentally exhausted by either being in pain or trying to figure out ways to get out of pain. In December, I basically had a mental collapse when I was hit with severe pain. The process of trying to recover from lesser pain previous to the attack only to see it get worse led me to the typical symptoms of fear, anxiety, and depression.

If you can take breaks from your pain with medication, that would be a good idea. In the Sarno video, he mentions that he prescribes pain medication to help you while you go through the psychological process.

Good luck,

Mike C

Absolutely! I had fatigue problems when I was first dealing with TMS. Fatigue can be a TMS symptom itself or it can be a consequence of dealing with TMS. Pain can disrupt your sleep, leading to fatigue. Pain can also lead to depression, which can result in fatigue.
