I have been seeing one of Sarno's recommended Psychologists for about 4 weeks now - once a week. In each session, I focus on letting my emotions out - lots of anger and crying. The therapist - Dr. May is very very good. She has given me many insights into my family and why I pretty much stopped feeling in order to deal with everything.
For some reason, I now seem able to see my mother in a different light - and have started to lay some boundaries down - changing the subject on the phone when she starts to criticize - it is quite empowering. In my family, it is not done to ever disagree with my mother - if you do, you are really ostricized. But the therapist has given me the ok to do this and for some reason I have experienced a shift somewhere inside.
I was able to run on Sunday and this morning - first time in a very long time, that the hip pain did not even start. I have never felt so free and energized in all my life. I went running after the conversation with my mother - after I was able to stand up to her and set my own rules - and most of all NOT FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT. I wonder if guilt is a huge cause of anxiety and therefore contributes to TMS.
I seem to be one of those people who needed to talk all of this out with someone - as just reading the books and journalling did not help me. I think I needed someone to hear me and let me vent without any judgement.
I just had to share this with everyone as it feels like a mini break through

Congradulations! Sounds you are making huge progress. Over time maybe you will even be more direct about criticism and tell her directly that you do not like or deserve the criticism and you will not put up with it. This will be further empowering.

I can relate to your discussion on guilt. The inner child stuff has really helped me to focus on what is most important and not think so much about the guilt - my real feelings.

Great to hear Suz, and the being free and energized is a great sign in recovering
Setting boundaries and rules is also an awesome step again in the right direction, protecting your self while still taking responsibility of your emotions.

And NO do not feel guilty about it you are doing what is healthy for you.
IMO yes GUILT feeds to the TMS cycle along with the buddies such as FEAR and ANGER.

Btw don’t remember if it was you long ago, who said yull show them and when you found out that your pain was not physical went out put on a set of heels and took a long walk.

LoL this time did ya run in your heels cause that el be a double whammy.
