Posted - 09/05/2014 : 14:04:43 Sorry to bother you again but, unfortunately there's no specialist in TMS in my country. I made an anlysis of my health condition and reached these conclusions:
- first, I don't have anything physical;
- second, my symptoms are "created" by my brain. How? the injury that triggered my chronic pain occured at both elbows so, everytime I have arelapse or I fear a relapse, those áreas become oxygen deprived (I feel the same has if I had done a sprint whe n I'm cycling). I start feeling those areas immensely tense and my muscles get in a sort of "lock" position. They don't seem to relax. This, in turn, creates stress to my body that's why I feel additional symptoms in other parts of my body.
For me these are the basis of TMS.
Despite being pain free for almost 1 year I was never able to:
-type normally in the computer, I got used to using only 1 hand to type, and using a special mouse;
- resume my physical work out.
This became a sort of trauma and a ghost hovering in my mind. I fear them even before trying to do them. When trying to do those activities the pain gets much, much worse. so, please help me, guys.
What should i do?
I've got a lot of repressed emotions but fear of chronic pain (and becoming a cripple) is my main one. I also feel regret when I try to embrace those activities again, nemely working out, because for me they are associated with the beginning of my pain.
Again thank you very much for your understanding :)

Posted - 09/06/2014 : 03:43:16 hi,
Thanks for your reply :) You are absolutely right. I guess I just scared my body whith such activities. I was doing so fine :(. One year ago I coludn't even play Playstation, and until one week ago, I could play it normaly. That was something I overcome. Now I can't play again. I guess I wasn't ready yet to resume certain activities.
I'm dissapointed :( with myself. I should be more careful. I remember about talking to my wife about the idea of resuming workout. She called me crazy. |

Posted - 09/05/2014 : 23:14:31 Hi filipe,
Have you checked out Ace1's "Keys to Healing" ?
http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7765
In terms of "what should you do" when the pain gets much much worse.. this is some advice posted (sorry can't remember who posted what) that I found helpful:
Don't force physical activities on yourself. We don't need to prove to our mind that we are physically healthy when we are really not. The main goal is to reduce the tension. Do only the activities that your body is comfortable doing.
If you're unsure of something you are doing is helping your recovery or not, ask the following question: "Is this helping me to CALM my overly sensitized nervous system from reacting to the events of the day?" (from Ace1's Keys to Healing)
If your leg hurt bad, don't try to run a marathon. If your back is in terrible pain, don't try to lift that big trash can. Once your tension is down to a certain level, your syptoms will subside, will lessen. We should wait until the pain level is down to a point that we can rn and lift without scaring the sh-- out of us. (I think that might have come from Balto.)
I didn't fight it [the pain.] I approached it with peace and calmness. When I had symptoms I just slowed my thinking down and observed my symptoms. I acknowledged that it is there and then I accepted the fact that it will be there for a while. (I think maybe from Balto as well.)
Avoiding symptoms just does not work, as you must realize by now. You need to let all feelings be there, not t avoid them, but to go through them, invite them even.
If you can't relax in your body, just relax in your attitude.
Hope you find something in here that is helpful...

Posted - 09/05/2014 : 22:01:56 Hi - one thing that I noticed with my own symptoms that were similar to yours, how do both elbows get sore at the same time? If it comes from your brain, no problem. If you are right handed, and it is a physical problem, our right elbow would "wear out" much earlier than your left. |
